Another clone looked over. "What looks like a smile?"
12 hours have passed. The Chief is doing just absolutely fine. He's sprinted further. He is surprised that the men around him have been able to go this long. Guess it helps that they aren't carrying 50 to 100 pounds of weight all on their back plus whatever weapon they have. But still the normal human body can only take so much, even cloned bodies.
Fives walked over to his captain with am exhausted tone, his breath being heard in his words. "Sir, we've been keeping this pace for 12 hours now. The men are getting worn down."
"We should rest." Rex said walking over to Pong Krell.
Cortana smirked, "I was going to say something but it wasn't going to be nice."
"Is that how you play nice?" Her green ride said."
"I guess you do know me."
"General Krell, the top of this ridge will make a good place for the men to make camp." Rex said.
And without missing a beat Krell responds coldly, "The men don't need rest. They need the resolve to complete the task at hand."
"But sir-"
"CT-7567 are you reading me?" He interrupted him.
Rex processed the Generals words while trying to come up with a response, "Excuse me... sir?"
The General crossed both pairs of arms, "I asked you a question CT-7567. Do you understand the need to adhere to my strategy?"
"Sir." Rex started. "The terrain is extremely hostile, despite the conditions the battalion is making good time. These men just need a little break."
The towering General stood in front of Rex and got close to his face. "Captain. Do I need to remind you of this battalion's strategic mission in conquering this planet. Look back." He pounted behind Rex, making him look at all of his brothers. "See those platoons? Their mission is to take this city and take it swiftly. Time and rest is luxury the Republic cannot afford. We are the key to this invasion. The other battalions are counting on our support. If we fail, everyone fails! Do you understand this! Do you all understand this!" He yelled looking back at everyone with such bitterness. "Now move on!" Pong yelled before continuing forward. Rex could only look back before following.
There was a pregnant pause between Chief and Cortana. He could feel her anger in his helmet. "I know what you're going to say."
"Oh really!" She exaggerated her words. "Then why don't you respond to what I haven't said yet? He is death marching these men into a battle they won't be able to fight with all of their strength! If this keeps up, the Umbarans won't even have to fight because the 501st will all be dead before they get there!"
"There is nothing I can do."
"Why not! Even if he is a superior, you can still at least say something to him! Because if you won't then I will!"
"Don't that-"
Chief couldn't even finish his words, "You know I'm right Chief! He's just going to get all of these men killed! I know that's not what you want."
Chief didn't know what to say about this. She was right. "Chief...I know you. You want to try to do this all on your own so these men don't have to risk their lives. That's what you're thinking, but you can't do that."
Chief slowly nodded as he looked up at Fives. He quickly walked over to him. "Fives."
"Chief?" He said with exhaustion.
"I need to clarify a few things. What is my position in the Republic army and navy?"
"Well.... honestly I thought you were apart of the 501st for a while but I think you're just a volunteer. But are you actually assigned to our battalion?"
