*Tanner's P.O.V*

Thunder boomed and lightning lit up the dark and rainy mid June night. I sat into the back seat of the car looking out the window examining the bare landscape while listening to My Chemical Romance on full blast. It was raining buckets upon buckets of rain water outside. My legs were sore from sitting in the car for the past 12 hours. Who thought it was a good idea to go to California anyways? I looked over at the passenger's and driver's seat. My mom slept soundly in the passenger's seat while my dad literally bounced up and down in the driver's seat due to an over caffeinated coffee. I was about to turn my attention back towards my window, when out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of a figure laying down in the middle of the road. My dad slammed on the brakes causing my mom to wake up abruptly, and launching me forward. I squinted trying to see what was in front of us, I leaned closer and realized it was a person. Ignoring my parents objections I opened my door to go see if the person was alright, as soon as I stepped outside my hair clung to my scalp because of the rain, the area was silent except for the sounds of the windshield wipers. I slowly made my way towards the body, the closer I got the more details I could make out. The person was a boy by the looks of it, he was still breathing, thank God, he had short light brown hair and seemed to be the same age as me. I reached his side and kneeled down beside him and slowly turned him over, my eyes grew wide, laying in front of me was Jason Espinosa, one of my school friends, but he was supposed to be in Mexico right now, he told me so right before he said he was leaving. Clearing my head of all the questions I was dying to ask him, I quickly picked him up bridal style and hurriedly carried him towards the car. I ignored my mom's yelling to leave him outside, and I carefully placed him in the empty two seats next to me. I rummaged through our luggage and took out a few towels and a blanket. I turned on the light to examine him better. His hair clung to his scalp, his face was pale and his lips were starting to turn blue, his lips were parted so he could breathe, but his breathing became labored. I covered him quickly, afraid he might contract hypothermia. His breathing became normal, I started to relax. I got a pillow and placed it on my lap and lowered Jason's head on it. I looked up and my parents were eyeing the boy warily. "He's my friend ," I said finally, " he doesn't look good so we should take him home with us." My parents exchanged glances but my dad sighed and started the car. We got home an hour later, I rushed Jason inside and laid him on my bed. I started inflating a bed for my self, then I went to the bathroom to look for some medicine I could give Jason. I came out empty handed and decided water would be a better solution. I walked back to my room and somehow was able to make him drink water. For the next 2 weeks I nurtured him back to health. But in those 2 weeks my parents were swindled out of the house and in desperation they looked for a solution and once the found one, it came at a price. My dad had no where to look for help so he went a more supernatural approach, he went to a witch doctor and made a deal with her, she gave him mountains of money for a new house, but his greed got the best of him. He wasn't paying attention when she said that the one condition she had was that an unknown curse will fall upon one of his sons. He paid no attention because I was his only son, but the hag considered Jason as his son as well. Without thinking twice he took the deal and came back to our hotel room with news for my mom. My mom made us all pack as soon as she heard the story, she urged my dad to take us to a place far away from where we were.

My eyes flew open as a cold rush of water hit my face. I sat up in my soggy bed. I groaned in frustration. I looked up to see Jason standing next to my bed with a bucket in one hand and a wild grin planted on his face. He began laughing hysterically when I got up. "It looks like you peed the bed!!" He said in between laughter. I trudged over to the window and opened the curtains. Sunlight poured in making my bedroom walls glow. This bedroom was so much better than my last one, it was on the second floor, it had a small balcony, and a small ladder leading up to the roof. The walls were painted blue and black, I always kept my room nice and clean unlike Jason. I went into my bathroom and got some towels to dry myself and my bed. I glared at Jason when I came out, "Start acting your age, you're 17 for crying out loud!" I yelled throwing my hands in the air. "1 plus 7 equals 8, so I'll act like an 8 year old." He said smiling. I don't know why he doesn't try hard to do good things, if he was smarter then he'd be the perfect guy, he had the physical body, the tanned skin, the handsome face, and the teal blue eyes that made the girls go crazy, or so he says. Compared to him I'm not as attractive, I'm lean, tall, and my eyes are stormy gray, we both have a jaw line but mine is more defined, and I'm sort of the same shade of brown as him but I'm a little lighter. I sigh and start cleaning up the mess he made.

My mom yells up the stairs that it's almost time for us to go register for school, and for the first time I'm relieved to hear that.
