Soulmates aren't real. At least that's what Sirius had believed until a chance encounter in the library with a complete stranger chaned everything.

It was an unexpected place to meet the other part of your soul.

But the stars had truly alligned in Sirius's favor.

Late at night, when the house was quite and  their parents had fallen asleep, Sirius's would  sneak into his brothers room and they would discuss Mythology and Astrology until Regulus would be lulled into a calm sleep by Sirius's retellings.

This tradition had started when Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin and the tension between him and his parents reached a high, it would never come back from. It's like when you hiked up a mountain, but you don't have the energy to climb back down, either you perish or you're rescued. In Sirius's case he had been rescued.

And although the relationship with Sirius and his parents grew strained Regulus had been determined to not make Sirius stray away from their family completely, at least not from him.

And so they would gaze up at the sky and talk about the stars, the moon and about myths and legends. These conversations had become a refuge from reality, under the nightsky their family was united in constellations and everything seemed perfect.

Once Regulus had also started Hogwarts, as a Slytherin, Sirius's had introduced him to his friends. James greeted him warmly, tousling his curly raven hair, which caused Regulus to blush and avert his gaze. Peter offered him some of the sweets he always carried around with him, but Regulus politely declined, still trying to hide the faint pink, induced by James's overtly friendly greeting, lingering on his cheeks.

Despite the introduction, Regulus didn't quite mesh with Sirius's circle. He found them too rowdy and unsophisticated, preferring the company of Barty and Evan, whose families met his parents' approval.

And while the Potter's were also a highly upstanding and esteemed family, their political views clashed drastically with those of Orion and Walburga.

"Don't associate with their sort, Regulus. Toujours Pur." Walburga had drilled into him everyday while Sirius had been away for school, in hopes that Regulus wouldn't turn out like Sirius when it was time for his sorting.

This warning reverbrated in his mind and Regulus couldn't do anything, but stare longingly at Sirius and his friends, knowing he won't ever be part of their friendgroup.

This growing estrangement, hadn't stopped their bonding over Astrology though. Every year on Regulus's birthday they would meet up on the astronomy tower.

Regulus had developed a newfound obsession with the sun, which he eagerly shared with Sirius until dawn broke over the horizon.

Regulus's first birthday at Hogwarts.

They had met up in the astronomy tower, once the sky had darkened.

Sirius had sat down at the edge off the tower dangling his feet while Regulus had positioned himself further away from the edge.

An easy conversation flowed between the two brothers and time went by unoticed.

"In Norse mythology, they believe there's a sun goddess named Sol, who is being chased by a wolf called Sköll," Regulus spoke as the sun rose once more.

"Is there?" Sirius's had smiled very encouragingly at his brother, fond of his intellectual ramblings. It was rare for Regulus to let lose like this and talk without putting a leaf before his mouth. Sirius relished the moments his brother spoke so freely, allowed  the carefully engineered mask to crumble.
