CHAPTER 6 : THE CONCEALED PUZZLE PIECES

"Safayi nahi chahiye humein, Barrister Babu. Humein bas apne visphotak ke bare mein jaanna hai bas. Bohot kharch kiya hai humne unpar. Humein woh wapas chahiye. Jab tak visphotak ya uske mutabik paise yahan pahunchte nahi, tab tak apki patni yahan se bahar nahi ayenge. Apke fitoor mein ek krantikaari khoya hai humne. Grahte ke Pati ko jail jana pada tha" The imposter interrupted.

That's it. This can never be my father. My baba cannot be like this to his Mishti Sinhi and Jamai Babu.

"Apke visphotakon ka khayal rakhna apki zimmedari thi. Jab ap sab uspar nakamyab rahi toh ab humpar dosh lagakar sthiti ko sambhalna keisa tareeka hua?" I raged at him "Bas itna hai apki Samiti ka shaan aur maan?"

All I could feel for this person and his gang was rage. Pure rage. I guess one of the reasons for my response was the man's similarity to my baba while the other obvious reason was the way he was treating my Pati babu.

"Greenwood ko visphotakon ke bare mein jaankari ap donon ne di thi! Warna Mahila Ghar jeise jagah woh aise hi jaanch keliye nahi aate" His lackey answered for him while the man's eyes blazed with something strong but it went quickly as it came.

"Dekhiye bakwas karne ki bhi hadd hoti hai! Jab meine kaha ki Greenwood aur firangiyon se humein koyi matblab nahi toh nahi. Bas!" Pati babu burst from my side, the expected reaction coming from him a bit late this time.

I was wondering why it took him so much time to bring out the Anirudh Roy Chowdhary inside him.

"Iss se aage humein ap sab se baat nahi karna hai. Humein abhi jane dete hai toh theek hai warna ap sabko adalat tak khaseetke jaunga mein. Yeh Barrister Anirudh Roy Chowdhary ka vada hai"

The arrogant lackey unleashed his sword and marched towards Pati babu so I placed myself in front of him, only for him to pull me back to his protection. Now with the sword to his neck, Pati babu glowered at the masked man in pure anger. His hold on my hand tightened but he didn't even flinch otherwise.

"Yeh kya kar rahe hai ap log! Jante hai na yeh kaun hai? Bengal ke ek sammanit Barrister hi nahi balki Roy Chowdhary khandan ke bade bete hai!" I shrieked from behind him, trying to release myself from his tight hold.

"Riyan" A warning tone came from his leader but he was in no mood to stop.

"Firangiyon se darte nahi. Phir Roy Chowdhariyon kya cheez hai" the lackey – Riyan scoffed at our faces.

"Tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk" The sound of the lizard came in but a bit louder and we all turned to realize the lizard was in fact Tappu.

"Tappu" I stated to myself, my heartbeats now lulling.

"Yeh huyi na galti. Kisko kiske sath compare kar rahe ho Riyan babu" Tappu answered but thought and immediately added "Mera Matlab hai kisko kiske sath tulna kar rahe ho?" he smirked towards the right side of Nikesh babu, stressing on 'tulna'.

What was that about?

A struggling voice was heard and as though on cue, Batuk rushed towards his side as if dragging himself away from someone else.

"Yeh toh mera sambhashan hona tha! Kyun cheen liya mujhse ise!" he whined at Tappu.

Hey Dugga Maa, them and their dramatics!

"Acha sorry baki tum hi bolo" Tappu conceded.

"Kya tum hi bolo. Ab flow kahan se ayenge?" he grumbled more under his breath but continued "Haan toh kahan tak baat huyi humari? Yes yes comparison" he looked at Tappu, as if him unusually including English words in his speech has everything to do with the former "Dada firangiyon kahan aur Roy Chowdhariyon kahan! Matlab, Tulsipur ke keede makode jante hai ki humse panga lena dangerous hote hai. Yeh jo firangiyon ki baat kar rahe hai na ap log, unhe harana toh mere Dada-Boudi ke baye haathon ka khel hai, jo woh donon roz karte hai. Mere Baba aur Somu dada ke contracts ke samne toh koyi bhi pardesi fida ho jate hai. Tulsipur ke sare English women mere Laya Boudi se consultation lete hai.
