All appeared quiet on the outside during the ride back from Sherrinford to London. No one on the plane spoke, and except for some transmissions on the helicopter's radio from passing ships, and the ocean below, there was only silence. However, much like the storm brewing above them and the choppy, dark waters below them, Mycroft's mind was tumultuous. The Siren's actions had puzzled him, much like Sherlock would say, the game was very much still on. He looked out at the stormy skies, it had been a day like this when he had first gotten word of her arrival.
She had been on his radar a while before that day. Lately, there had been an unordinary amount of missing and murdered people in France, lonely people, married people, all sorts. It didn't concern Mycroft at first, and he waved it off as a serial killer or some other quite ordinary thing. Although the Holmes definition of ordinary was indeed quite skewed. It was when she got to Britain that Mycroft began to get suspicious. At first she started off with nobodies, regular citizens, but then she started to go after prominent figures, government officials. He could care less about what scandal was going on at the moment, but when his name started showing up in the murders, he became involved. Scotland Yard had initially done the investigation after she had killed her first Londoner, but Mycroft went to uncover more facts and why he was tied into all of this. It had been Greg Lestrade that had called him, and knew that Mycroft would be interested.
As Mycroft delved deeper into the mystery of the Siren he tried to piece together where he came into all of this. When he had heard of her involvement with Moriarty, he knew that Sherlock could not be used to help him in this case. He simply didn't need help. Or so he thought. He had known that Sherlock was haunted by Moriarty and being the older brother he was, Mycroft decided to spare him the pain. However, as he now stood in front of the door of 221b Baker Street, he went against that decision.
"Someone is at the door, John! Go get it!" Sherlock yelled.
John opened the door and greeted Mycroft with a smile.
"It's your brother!" John shouted back as he opened the door wider to let Mycroft into the flat.
"What do you want Mycroft?" Sherlock said, not bothering to move from his laid back position on the couch.
"I require your assistance in solving a case, brother mine." Mycroft replied.
"A case? What kind of case?" Sherlock asked, obviously interested now. He got up from the couch and sat in his chair. John followed and sat in his designated chair.
"So Sherlock, the case-" Mycroft said before being cut off by his brother.
"The chair." Sherlock said, motioning to the chair where clients sit.
"No, Sherlock. I am not a client, I don't have to sit in the chair."
"Well you are now. He won't talk to you unless you sit in the chair." John said.
"Oh fine, Sherlock. You really are so childish sometimes." Mycroft complained, sitting down in the client chair.
"Very well, brother, what brings you here?" Sherlock inquired.
"While this may come as a shock to you, I have been working on a case of my own lately."
"Really? I thought you didn't like legwork?" Sherlock smirked.
"What is this case about?" John asked.
"It's about a person who was involved with Jim Moriarty, a world renowned assassin."
"The killings that have been happening as of late. The still unsolved murders of government officials along with ordinary people. I presume that is this person's doing." Sherlock stated.
"Yes, she is the one who has been committing these murders. She's also the reason why you haven't been called to solve them." Mycroft replied.
"My past with Moriarty is what made you not call me, but that's not all, is it? There's something you're not telling me."
"She kept on leaving my name in the crime scenes. We've captured and imprisoned her now, but she said that I was 'chosen' by her and that she was playing the 'game'. I figured that you might know why she chose me and what she means by 'the game' since Moriarty said similar things."
"The game is her watching you try to solve her murders, it's entertaining for them, like watching rats in a maze. She is clearly as twistedly smart as Moriarty. If she's anything like him, she thinks that you are her equal. The opposing force that drives the game. She leaves your name so that you know it is directed at you, because she knows that if she does not explicitly concern you that you will ignore it. But if she's really as good as you say she is then she had planned to get caught in order to keep playing the game. My question is, why keep playing in a jail cell?" Sherlock said, seemingly all in one breath.
"She mentioned that she had planned to get caught. For what reasons I do not know, but she did mention that I was the fool."
"The fool?" John said, one eyebrow raised.
"Yes, she specifically said that when I asked who I was in all of this; 'the fool'."
"Odd, what else can you tell us about this woman?" Sherlock asked.
"She is called 'The Siren', it's one of her many nicknames. She has (your hair type: curly, wavy, straight) (your hair color), has (your eye color) eyes, and is about (your height)."
"The Siren? I've heard of her before, she's named that after how she kills people. She lures her victims in with her beauty and sweet words and then kills them after a few dates, either through poison or a more physical method."
"But that still doesn't explain what 'the Fool' means." John stated.
"I have a theory that it's linked to a fairytale or story of some kind, but I'm not sure specifically what tale. Perhaps the fool is the sailor that is lured in by the siren. But that still doesn't explain how it pertains to me." Mycroft said.
"That's it!" John exclaimed.
"Do you want to explain, John?" Sherlock asked.
"Yeah, it means that Mycroft is her next victim." John replied, smirking from the happiness of seeing something even Mycroft Holmes did not see. Or rather, refused to see.
"Yes, very good John. But there's something more than that? Something that Mycroft isn't telling us." Sherlock said, pausing his thinking to look at his brother.
"Yes," he cleared his throat, "well, she did do something." He cleared his throat again and fixed his tie. His cheeks were tinged pink and he felt his face start to heat up a little.
"She told me something... that she was obsessed with me."
"And?" Sherlock said, drawing out the word for effect.
"She.. erm... kissed me."
"Yes, yes, very well and all but you're missing the point. She said that she's obsessed, much like Moriarty was obsessed with me. You're playing the game with her. She's toying with you. She wants you to figure out the mystery." Sherlock stated while pacing back and forth.
"But why? There's nothing very special about him. Nothing worth obsessing over anyways." John said.
Mycroft looked a bit offended by his comment but said nothing.
"It could be his government position, his wealth, or the fact that he's associated with me." Sherlock stated, already starting to narrow down possible reasons in his head.
"I only occupy a minor position in the British government. And our kinship is more or less a secret to the public. Unless..." Mycroft started.
"Unless what?" John asked.
"She did mention that she knew Moriarty, or as she called him 'Jimmy'." Mycroft said.
"The nickname Jimmy is far too casual for Moriarty to be called by anyone working for him, he has no family that we know of, and it's much too sweet for even a friend to call him. She would have to had dated him, and for a long while too in order for her to get the amount of comfort for her to call him Jimmy. If she knew Moriarty then it is possible that he may have sent her after you, or at the very least heavily influenced her. Maybe she kissed you becauase she was playing with your emotions, or maybe it was because you are the last thing she has left of Moriarty." Sherlock said, going on one of his long monologues.
"Sentiment is found on the losing side, and I do not lose."
"Maybe she wanted you to think that she was on the losing side." Sherlock said.
