Sankofa
(N.) (phrase) "go back and fetch it"; we must look back to the past so that we may understand how we became what we are, and move forward to a better future.
<Origin: African>
--
I can't go back
to who I was then
because no one can truly go back.
only those stopping by
can get a peek
catch a glimpse
of what was.
the past is important
a foundation
for what is built today
a new layer to a skyscraper
a lesson learned
and set in stone.
had I not
acquired the foundation I did
how am I to be certain
that this building I have constructed
through years and years of work
would still be standing
even to this day?
