I sat back down at my desk and finished up a bit of work. After about 10 minutes, Brooklyn jolted up, panting softly. Her eyes looked around in panic, not noticing me.
"You're okay. You came here with me, remember?" I whisper gently, not wanting to freak her out more. She nodded softly and calmed her breathing. She stretched a little, popping a few of her joints. She looked down at my coat that dropped to the floor, leaning over and picking it up, putting it over her legs. She looked so adorable.
Her hair was a little out of place, her cheek was marked with sleep lines and her eyes were a little red from the previous tears. I shouldn't admit this, but, she was a pretty crier. I could only imagine how she would look crying as I-
"What time is it?" She mumbled, her voice still groggy from the nap. I had to hold back a groan, looking at my watch.
"Nearly 7." I say casually. She looked at me with wide eyes, looking at the coffee table, she realized she had to study. Putting her head in her hands for a second, she groaned softly.
"You can stay here and study. I don't want you to go home just yet, you're still disoriented." I say softly, standing from my chair. I walk over to her and sit on another couch, grabbing one of her textbooks. "Want help? I have nothing better to do."
"Thank you..." She whispered, looking at me with thankful eyes. Once again, my mind pictured those eyes watering as she took every inch- pause.
"Anytime. What are we studying tonight?" I clear my throat and look at her. She grabbed the book from the table and opened it to where she was previously reading before falling asleep.
"A lot." She chuckled and handed me the textbook while she grabbed her notebook, opening it to review some of her notes.
The following 30 minutes consisted of me reading out the lesson as she repeated it quietly. I quizzed her randomly, giving her a grin for every question she answered correctly. At some point throughout the study session, I was sure that I heard her stomach growl. She stared into her notebook, her lips pursed. For a second I thought it was just my imagination, but when I saw the slight widening of her eyes, I chuckled.
"I feel like fast food. In and out or jack in the box?" I ask, pulling out my phone and opening Uber Eats. I could almost feel the joy radiating off of her at the mention of food. I looked at her through my lashes, seeing her lost in thought. "Well?"
"Sorry, debating on which one is better... Jack in the box." She smiled. I quirked an eyebrow at her and shook my head, making her tilt her head, slightly offended. "Jack in the box is the best."
"I have to disagree, angel. In and Out is the go-to fast food restaurant." I stared at her, silently daring her to talk back. When she did, I felt my nerves go rigid.
"Your taste buds must be on vacation because you're dead wrong." She huffed, crossing her arms, and letting the book rest on her lap. I narrowed my eyes at her.
"We're going to settle that discussion soon. As for now, what do you want?" I asked, returning my gaze to the phone. I ordered our food and we went back to studying. She had gotten up and started pacing, softly chanting the words to memorize them.
"Okay, quiz me!" she grinned, standing with her hands on her hips. I stared at her for a moment, enjoying how I could see the shape of her thighs and hips with those jeans.
I looked down at the book and started asking questions. She answered them all, only messing up on a few words. With the last question, she took a second before answering it.
"What is Boudoir?" I asked, staring intently into her eyes. She stared back at me, biting the inside of her cheek before inhaling softly.
"It's a photographic style that captures intimate, sensual, romantic, and even sometimes erotic images of a person in an intimate location." She murmured. Her body was rigid and stiff now, she walked towards the elevator when it opened, the Uber Eats deliverer standing there with a smile. I stood up and walked towards them both.
"Good job, angel. You're ready for tomorrow's exam." I praised her, handing the money to the delivery man and taking the bags from him. I looked over at Brooklyn who was looking at me with a soft smile. I wanted to snatch her up and eat her instead of the greasy food I held in my hands. Once the man left, we sat down and started eating, striking up a casual conversation.
I remembered that Zachary had asked her out. Making me realize that now would be the perfect time to ask her out also... would I scare her away?
"Angel, when you have a free schedule, let's go out for some tacos." I tell her. I didn't need to ask her if she wanted to go out, I could see it in her eyes every time I smiled at her or called her Angel. And I also didn't take no for an answer unless it was consent but we don't talk about that.
She nods softly, smiling down at her soda. "Sounds lovely."
