Y/n's Point Of View

8:09 a.m. - Girl's Locker Room
"Why do we have gym so early~? It's the first day of school and I just did my makeup!" Amelia complained.
"I know. This is bullshit." I agreed. Having gym class for 2nd period of high school is not ideal, especially as a girl. I don't think any person would want to have gym class this early.
"I just got ready and now the boys are going to make fun of us." Maddie sighed.
"Boys are such idiots. They have way better things that could come out of their mouths but choose the dumbest options." I said.
"True that." Maddie said.

As the bell rang, we rushed out of the locker room and accepted and delt with the suffering.

8:15 a.m. - Gymnasium
"Are you kidding me? Do we HAVE to do a fitness test today?" Amelia exclaimed.
"Yes, Amelia. Just like last year, and the year before that." Our gym teacher said.
"Ugh~." Amelia cried.

As we lined up getting ready for our first fitness test, the teacher was doing rollcall. I got to get a good look at everyone in the class. There was a broad variety of people in my class. The annoying jocks who think they are better than everyone else, check. The "pick me" girls that think they are too cool to change into their gym clothes and even participate in class, check. Finally, the quiet kids that are suffering a little more than everyone else in the class, check. Some students are familiar but some, not so much.

I scoffed, "Look at these guys, some of them look like they can't even do 1 pullup."
"Hey! I can't do pullups!" Amelia reminded me, annoyed.
"Oh, right." I awkwardly laughed, trying to save myself from a mad Amelia.

Then, I heard a name that I haven't heard before. I realized I haven't seen him before either. His name is Arwin. Is he new to the school? Remember when I was talking about the kinds of people that are in my class? Well, Arwin is the quiet kid that looks like he's suffering harder. He looks nervous as hell. Either it's his first day of school and he's just nervous about that or he's nervous because he doesn't like the feeling of being watched while he works out. I relate to both of these possibilities. Well, I guess after class it'll be time to socialize.

As the whistle blew, Amelia, Maddie and I began running. This is the final part of the fitness test, thank god.

"I hate this so much." Maddie said.
"Just think, only 3 laps around the gymnasium and then we're done." I tried to motivate.
"Yeah! Also, we'll be closer to lunch period." Amelia added.

As the jocks were competing against each other, I noticed them slowing down in their tracks and observing Arwin. Arwin was furthest ahead of everyone in the class and was on his 2nd lap already.

"Guys, have you seen him before?" I asked.
"Half of these people I have blocked out of my memory because I hate them so much so can we be a little more specific here?" Maddie expressed.
"Arwin. The one already on his 2nd lap around."
"Oh~," They both exclaimed.
"No, I haven't. Maybe he's new here. I heard there were new kids from Gyeongju. You know, ever since the fires happened. Maybe he's one of them." Maddie suggested.
"Oh. That's cool." I said.
"He doesn't have a Korean name, though."
"Hey, Amelia! Wait up!" Liam, one of the jocks, yelled from afar.
"Oh, here we go." I said.
"I heard that, Y/n." Liam pouted.
"Like I care. Shouldn't you be with your friends ahead of us?" I clapped back.
"Damn, that's one way to make someone feel unwelcome. Anyways, Amelia, I must say you murdered the pullups."
"Oh, thanks." She said, trying to hide her blushed cheeks.
"Yeah, murdered my eyes! Oh~! Also, many Korean people have an English name. Maybe, read a book for once in your life!" Liam laughed and ran off.
"This is going to be a long year, isn't it?" Amelia pouted.

9:00 a.m. - Hallway
While heading to my 3rd period class, I saw Arwin walking alone. Since I am a social butterfly and assuming he has no friends here, I thought I'd be nice and talk to him.

I walked next to him and greeted, "Hey!"
He nodded and began walking faster, getting ahead of me. Huh, kind of weird.
I caught up to him and tried again, "So, um, my name is Y/n. We are in the same-", As I was gonna finish my sentence, he began to walk faster and got lost in the crowded hallway.
"Gym class." I finished. Well, that was rude. Some, if not most highschoolers don't want anyone speaking to them early in the morning but damn.
