"But nothing. We are all already in the elevator on the way to Harvey's car, we will come finish the hospital bag and then meet you at the hospital" her voice is reassuring.
"Okay" Evie nods.
"Don't give birth till we are there" she hears Harvey down the phone and can't help but laugh.
"I will try" Evie smiles and Ransom hangs up.
"Okay let's get you in the car" Ransom says leading her down the stairs.
"Wait" Evie says before he opens the front door.
"What?" He looks at her confused.
"Go grab me something dry to change into" she says looking at her damp leggings.
"I will text Donna to do that I just want you to get to the hospital" his voice stern.
"You're going to let me in your car with wet clothes" she raises her eyebrows.
"Fine" he huffs and sprint's upstairs to collect a pair of his sweats for her to wear and a towel, before helping her get changed.
Placing the towel on the chair of his car, he helps her in before driving over the speed limit to the hospital.
Once they are in the room and settled her doctor comes in and checks on her.
"Is everything okay, I still have a month left to go" Evie cries as the doctors begins the ultrasound.
"Baby is looking healthy and is in the right position. How far apart are the contractions?" She asks.
"Every 5 minutes" Ransom answers shocking her because she didn't know he was timing them.
"Okay let's have a look how far dilated you are" she says before asking Evie to place her legs in the stirrups.
"You're only 3cm so far but we will continue to monitor you closely" she smiles at Evie, who nods before screaming as another contraction hits.
"Did you want the epidural?" The doctor asks.
"I don't know, I hadn't finished planning everything" she cries.
"That's fine you have a little bit of time to think about it. How about I leave you two to talk and I will come back in half an hour to check in you" she smiles sweetly at them.
"Thank you" Ransom says before turning his attention back to his wife.
Eventually everyone arrives at the hospital to await the arrival of the newest member.
After what seems like a lifetime but in reality was 6 hours, it was time for Evie to push.
With Ransom one side and Donna the other just liked they planned, there was no way she wasn't haven't Donna in the room.
"Fuck Ransom we are never having sex again" she screams as she pushes and she can see in the corner of her eye Donna trying not to laugh.
"We both know that's not true" he smirks which earns him a harder grip on his hand.
"He's right" Donna smiles.
"Be on my side" she hisses and Donna laughs.
"Jesus Evie you're gonna break my hand" he winces.
"Good because it's my vagina that's currently being torn apart" she cries.
"Okay Evie one last push" the doctor encourages managing to save Ransom from responding.
With one final push their baby boy is born, however silence fills the room.
"Why's he not crying"Evie panics.
The nurses whisk him to the side and they instruct Ransom to cut the umbilical cord.
"What's happening!" Evie screams trying to get information.
But before a nurse or doctor can respond a small cry fills the room.
Relief floods both of them.
"We need to take him to the NICU" the doctor says.
"Go with him" she begs Ransom.
"I can't leave you" he looks at her with a torn expression.
"I've got Donna our son needs his daddy" she cries.
"We will get her cleaned up and she can come up" the doctor reassures Ransom.
"Okay" he kisses her before leaving.
The time the doctors spend ensuring that Evie is okay feels like torture, all she wants is to be with her son and husband.
Eventually they agree for to go visit and Donna wheels her the NICU with Harvey and Micheal joining.
Tears instantly form in her eyes at the sight of Ransom holding the hand of their tiny son in an incubator.
"He's perfect" Donna whispers as Evie is prepped to enter.
She is eventually wheeled in by a nurse and Ransom is instantly at her side ensuring she's okay.
"He's so small" her voice choked with emotion.
"He's tough" Ransom smiles at their son.
"Everything looks good, we would like to keep in for a few days to monitor him to be safe, given he's a early" the doctor confirms.
"Can I hold his hand?" Evie asks and Ransom wheels her up to him.
"Of course" the doctor smiles.
"Hey baby it's mummy" Evie says reaching in to take his tiny hand.
She smiles as tears flow down her cheek, the love she feels for him overwhelming her.
Evie turns to see her mini family stood watching beyond the glass with smiles and tears, this baby is going to be loved.
Evie is discharged after 24hrs of being monitored and after three days in NICU their son is cleared to come home.
They decided not to tell anyone his name until they could officially meet him, and let's just say they all tried their best to get his name out of her or Ransom.
Now as they enter their house with him they are instantly greeted with smiling faces.
"Let her get settled" Ransom guides her to the sofa as he carries the car seat in the other hand.
"You going to tell us his name yet?" Michael asks as soon as Evie is sat, clearly impatient to wait any longer.
Evie chuckles and whispers to Ransom, who passes the little bundle of joy to Donna.
"He's precious" she coos at the baby unshed tears glistening in her eyes.
"Name?" Harvey now asks.
"Okay okay" Evie hold her hands up and smiles at her son before announcing.
"Everyone meet James Reginald Drysdale"
Slowly realisation hits Michael and Harvey and their reaction is better than Evie could have asked for.
"Wait what" Michael says his voice croaky.
"Why James first?" Harvey asks.
"Clearly she loves me more" Michael shrugs and smirks and Harvey.
"Bullshit" Harvey argues.
"Proof is in the name" Michael continues to tease.
"It's not that I love one of you more than the other, it's that I'm not naming my child Reginald" Evie cuts them off.
"It's a great name" Harvey defends.
"Which is why it's his middle name" Evie confirms.
"Boys just be quiet" Donna glares at them while bouncing the baby.
"Thank you" Michael approaches her and gives her forehead a kiss before Harvey does the same.
They move to stand round Donna and dote on the little one.
Ransom sits next to her on the sofa and she cuddles up to him, resting her head on his shoulder as she looks round the room at the people she loves the most.
Contentment settles over her and she smiles. No more running or uncertainty of what the future holds, all that matters now is pouring all her love and energy into her son.
He won't have a childhood like hers or Ransom's, he will know his parents love him unconditionally and so do all his family members.
James Reginald Drysdale will know nothing but happiness and unconditional love.
