Chapter twentyeight~

I sat in the throne room, where a marble chair encrusted with golden diamonds awaited me. The room was empty and I was alone with myself for the time-being.

My hands slid over the arms of the chair and took in all the beauty my mother must have enjoyed. The crown on my head rested just right and the face that might have been worn out yesterday, was completely full of life today.

I was full of the adrenaline of a having a kingdom now. I was the most important woman within the kingdom now, and that made me feel at ease.

The petal that had foreshadowed my fight must have been wrong. There was no way I’d send myself into battle when everything was just right.

We could live like this for a long time, living discretely in the castle until the Trys gave up and there was no need to fight at all.

Miranda walked through the doors, her face as radiant as ever. I hadn’t told her yet about my plan to hand her the throne to her once this war was over. But then again, when would it be over?

Maybe it was best to keep it from her.

“We have some visitors.” She laughed sweetly. “They’ve come to discuss… war terms.”

The doors were opened by Eelii, but behind them was a bigger shock than him.

Thif, his wife and Leo walked in unison behind Eelii. I glared at Eelii all the way here, I’d figured he’d been repelled by now but no need to welcome his love back so quickly.

“Your highness.” He snarled, walking up to me.

“You can go now.” I returned the bitterness I’d started.

“I’ve been ordered to stay by your side through this discussion. Apparently it’s not safe.”

“Well you’re being ordered by me to leave.” I said in a stern voice, waiting for his departure.

“No can do, ma’am.” He chuckled, hopping up onto the stand where the throne stood. He hopped behind the chair and he was stood behind the right side. Miranda copied his actions, but so she was stood on the other side.

Two more guards came in and stood at the doors, for safety obviously. The three in the middle of the lavish red carpet made their way towards me.

“It is obvious you are not going to fight this war in the same way as us.” Thif stood at the front of the group, like a leader. “And therefore this is going to go on for so long we’ll both be dead by the time it’s ended.”

“I doubt that.” I replied in the steadiest voice I could manage. Thif shook his head and laughed to himself.

“So we, the Trys are offering a sort of… conclusion to this war.” He stepped forwards again and the guards at the doors both jumped a step closer as he did. I rolled my eyes.

“Go on.”

“Well, you see. You and Leo are the same age and of what I’ve seen, the same capability.” Leo stepped forwards, avoiding my eye contact, at his father’s demand. “So you two can both represent your kingdoms.”

“Represent in what exactly?”

“A battle.” Thif’s wife smiled venomously.

“To the death, of course.”  Pointed out Thif.

“And where would this be held?” I laughed slightly, this was stuff of make believe. No one fort like this anymore. But then again, a few months ago, fairies didn’t exist to me.
