Dear diray...
I always find it so awkward writing that sentence. Especially since I'm 21. Ugh. Well, I have a lot to tell you.
Yesterday was the first day back to school for the students, I had to welcome a new class full of 5 year olds and one little girl had the same name as me, Freja, lovley isn't it?
Well, Freja seemed to be an extremely shy kid (She also smelled really bad, not because that's something to be judging someone about) so I decided to keep her company and show her around since all the other kids seemed to feel so at home.
At first Freja barley said a word to me. She just followed me like a shadow all day, not because I'm complaining - she was extremely cute. She had big green eyes and red hair. Just like Merida from the movie Brave. She also reminded me of a friend I used to have when I was younger, but nvm. I think it was at lunch when I noticed that Freja didn't have a lunch bag with her that I heard her say her first word, "Miss, may I go to the bathroom?" She asked me. Her eyes were red and filled with tears. She started biting her underlip. Of course I was gonna let her use the bathroom is she needed to but I felt like that was just an excuse because she wanted some alone time. I took her hand and led her to the toilet anyway.
Before I let her close the door I asked her if she wanted me to wait for her outside but she just said "No thanks, you can go back and enjoy your lunch miss" that kid was a really weirdo, she was sweet and extremely cute but never have a heard or met such a polite 5 year old.
Even though she told me to back I just couldn't, I decided to wait outside the toilet a few minutes - I mean she looked like she was about to cry, I couldn't just leave her, she's 5!
After about 10 minutes I started to get worried, she either had stomach problems or she was feeling really bad mentally. I decided to give it another 5 minutes before I knocked. When yet another 5 minutes had past I decided to lend my ear to the door to see if I could hear anyone crying from inside.
I heard nothing, so I decided to knock. No answer. I knocked again. No answer. I whispered her name. No answer. I said her name a bit louder. No answer. At that point, I had gotten really worried so when my coworker, Harry, walked past me I decided to ask him if I maybe should lock the door up from outside. "That's probably for the better" Harry said "I'll go find something to lock up with" He said...I keep getting so annoyed at myself, I remember every little thing he have ever told me. Every little word...and he makes me so happy. He's so kind, smart and handsome!
Nvm, let's not talk about my tall and handsome coworker, who btw is the same age as me and SINGEL! I officially hate myself for writing those words.
So, Harry came back with a spoon in his hand. He handed me the spoon and smiled at me before he walked away. I didn't even say "thank you" I totally forgot to do that, how does a person forget that!?
Before I locked the door up I put my mouth really close to the door and said, "Freja, I'm gonna lock the door up from outside" no answer, so I opened. At first I couldn't find her anywhere, which really freaked me out because there were no windows in the bathroom. But then I heard someone crying, and it came a locker in which the cleaners kept toilet paper and other cleaning supplies.
"Freja, is that you? Please come out from the locker" I said. There was a locker in the corner of the bathroom, it was pretty big but not big enough for a person to hide in.
Freja opend the locked from inside and cralwed out. Her eyes were red from crying and her nose was dropping. "Please don't tell my mom that I used the school toilet! She's going to be really angry at me" Freja said.
What's going on at her house? That's a question I'll get an answer to tomorrow when I have a meeting with her parents and the principal about Frejas' behavior today.
I led Freja out of the bathroom and sat her down at bench. "Are you okay? Is there something going on at home that I should know about?" I asked her. I can't think of a reason why a child would act like this if it wasn't for something at home. Poor thing I thought to myself.
"No. My house is clean and big, my mom is pretty" Freja said. The way she put that sentence was so diffrent from anything she had ever said before. She sounded like a child.
"That's great hon, how about your dad? How is he? I won't tell anyone" I knew something was wrong, why else would she be acting like this. Kids this age, kids every age actully are usually very affected about things happening at home.
"I don't like school, may I go home miss?" Freja asked, she ignored my sentence. I decided to let it be for now, I had already decided to talk to the principal and call her parents anyway.
"I'm so sorry Freja but right now going home is not an option. But you only have 2 classes left after lunch break is finished, which will be in about 5 minutes. Do you want to go back with me?" I asked her. She nodded her head and held her hand up. I had learnt from this morning that if she heald her hand up it meant that she wanted me to hold her hand, so I did. I walked with her to her next class, which was arts. I stayed close to her for the rest of the day. It was nice spending time with her, even though I mostly did it because I was worried she might run away.
At 2 pm the bells rang and it was time for the kids to go home. Everyone's parents were there to pick them up, the kids were only 5 and it was their first day. I looked over at Freja, who sat down at the floor to tie her shoes, smart kid - only 5 years old and already knows how to tie her own shoes. I was looking around for Frejas parents but no one came. I watched Freja put her pink sparkling back pack on before she went outside. At first I thought that her parents might be waiting outside for her, they might have told her to go outside and look for them or something - but my overthinking got to much so I decided that I should at least follow Freja a few meters to look for her parents.
I quickly opened the door that had just been closed and I ran after Freja. She wasn't just smart, but quick. She had been gone for about 30 seconds but had just made it past the school yard. "FREJA! HOLD UP! I screamed, she quickly turned around and her face got 10 × whiter than it already was, she looked terrified.
I quickly ran up to her. "Are your parents not comming to pick you up?" I asked.
"Mom's busy, I like walking" she said.
Can I really let a 5 year old walk all the way home alone. I wouldn't let my 5 year old walk home alone.
"Do you need a ride home? My car is over there, you see. The white one." I said.
"No thank you. I need to be home in a few minutes. Bye miss, see you tomorrow, have a great day miss." She said before she kept walking.
No matter how worried I was I couldn't force her to sit in my car and let me drive her home.
I decided to talk to the principal who thought this sounded almost more serious than I thought. She told me that she'd call home to Freja and ask her parents to come down to the school for a meeting at 9 pm tomorrow.
Now I'm at home, worried about a 5 year old little girl with a lovley name. Trying to convince myself not to fall for my coworker. Goodnight my dear diray.
/Freja.
