"I appreciate your honesty," he began gently, his eyes conveying sincerity. "But our connection is still in its early stages, and I want us to build something meaningful without rushing into the complexities of physical feelings. It's not about you; it's about navigating this new chapter carefully. Can we take the time to explore what we have emotionally before delving further?"

My voice caught in my throat as I couldn't help but feel rejected as if I repulsed him. A mix of understanding and disappointment flickered across my face.

"I respect that," I replied with a nod, masking any lingering vulnerability. "Emotional connection is important too. Let's take the time we need to build something meaningful." As I turned to leave his office, a sense of acceptance settled in, though the unspoken tension lingered, hinting at the complexities that lay ahead.

In the days that followed, we navigated the delicate balance between building an emotional connection and acknowledging the unspoken tension. Conversations became a bridge, allowing us to explore the intricacies of our budding relationship. As we shared more about our pasts, dreams, and fears, the initial awkwardness faded, replaced by a deeper understanding. While the physical aspect remained on hold, a genuine connection began to flourish, setting the stage for a more profound bond to unfold.

It was almost as if the kiss never happened...

"Uno !" I called out, throwing my card on the stack.

"No, no, no, you can't do that. You can't end with a powerful card."

"Says who?" I asked crossing my arms in triumph.

"Says, the rules of the game Sophia." Dante jokes as I continue to display a victorious smile.

"Says, the losers." I taunted, making an L with my fingers as I watched him give a surrendering smile.

"You're cute when you tease." He commented making me stick out my tongue like a child.

In just two weeks, we transitioned from an awkward kiss to embracing the carefree joy of children. Admittedly, it was challenging for me to act as if nothing had happened. Yet, as time unfolded, Dante's wisdom resonated — understanding each other emotionally and mentally became paramount before venturing into the complexities of physical entanglements.

"Hey, would you like to come to a movie premier with me tonight ?" Dante asked, propping his leg up and resting his arm on it.

"What kind of movie ?" I inquired as I put the stack of cards back into the box.

"Uhm, I think it's...Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes ?"

"The Hunger Games!? Shut up !" I exclaimed excitedly, dropping the cards.

"I take it you've heard of it," Dante commented with a laugh.

"Heard of it? I grew up on it! Contrary to what everyone thinks, I'm actually team Gale. I mean, they really did him dirty in the series. He was Katniss' best friend and he was always there for her, supporting her, I mean I really thought they should've ended up together. I know it worked out better because Peeta was chosen in the games, but personally, I think it would've worked just as well if they had chosen Gale and they went into the games as best friends. I think it would've been the same outcome."

"So that's a yes ?" Dante asked through a hearty laugh at my attempt at a rant.

"I would die if you didn't take me right now." I exaggerated.

"Well, please don't die. But it's an hour away. So do you think you can restrain from dying until then ?" He teased.

"I'll try."

As we make our way to the movie premiere, I steal a glance at Dante. His subtle smile hints at the shared excitement between us. Nervously adjusting my outfit, I feel a mix of anticipation and curiosity about the evening ahead. The radio softly hums a tune, adding to the atmosphere of this moment between us.

Dante turns to me, his eyes reflecting sincerity, and says, "You know, I'm really looking forward to tonight. Not just the movie, but spending this time with you. It feels like we're creating our own story, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

I chuckle, breaking the romantic tension. "Well, let's hope the movie lives up to the hype. I'm counting on you for good taste in movie snacks, Dante."

As I hold back the romantic comment, I can't help but feel a mix of restraint and curiosity. Wondering if Dante caught onto my playful restraint, I find myself contemplating the fine line between building anticipation and expressing genuine feelings. In the quiet of the car, I ponder the unspoken dynamics and anticipate what the rest of the evening might unfold. I'd be lying if I didn't say I wanted to start moving towards exploring our romantic feelings, but I also knew it wasn't my place since he was the one who asked me to wait.As we approach the movie premiere, my phone buzzes with a mysterious text. The cryptic message introduces an unexpected element, casting a shadow over the glamorous setting of the red carpet. The intrigue within the text leaves me on the edge, eager to uncover the source of this mysterious communication and its implications for our evening.
