Fitz sighed. "You two are so clearly perfect for each other. You get so worked up about the strangest things."

Keefe smirked and reached out to place a hand on the small of Sophie's back. "That's my girl."

Eventually, Dex, Biana, and Tam were all consulted and agreed to first having a human movie night before leaping to the Forbidden Cities to see a live performance. Sophie explained that the movie was a human classic and that the premise of the musical completely turned the movie on its head.

Sophie feared that a lot of things were getting lost in translation. Dex could--and did--have their television set up to automatically provide subtitles in the Enlightened Language, but he couldn't do much about the cultural differences.

But her friends put up with it anyway.

And then it was time to go see the musical.

Sophie had caught Keefe listening to the soundtrack ahead of time, but stopped him before he made it very far.

"It'll be more magical if you don't really know what's happening going into it," she explained.

"Okay, but I already heard this one song that sounds like the perfect duet for me and Tammy!" Keefe told her.

Sophie had merely rolled her eyes without saying a word.

She knew what song he was talking about.

Everyone gathered at Aeternum. Linh had been correct that Rayni wouldn't be interested, but Tam came anyway.

"I doubt it's going to be that interesting," he told Sophie as they prepared to leap to the Forbidden Cities, "but any chance to find more ways to knock my parents down a few notches is worth it--even if it means going along with one of Keefe's plans." He flashed a sarcastic smile at Keefe, raising his voice at the end to make sure Keefe heard him.

"You should be grateful you even got invited there, Tammy Boy," Keefe said hotly. "Maybe we should rescind the offer. I'm not sure silver bangs is in fashion among humans, we wouldn't want to risk a major interspeciesial event because you blew the elves' cover."

"Out of the two of us," Tam shot back, "I think you're the one most likely to cause that kind of trouble."

"Dude, I lived in the Forbidden Cities for weeks without causing an incident."

"Yeah, but--"

"Um, boys?" Biana asked. "Want to stop swinging those egos around long enough to leap to the Forbidden Cities on time?"

"Wait a minute--Biana, why did you just put glasses on?" Linh asked her.

Dex grinned. "I made them. I have some for you and Tam, too, since you guys don't know English. It'll automatically translate into the Enlightened Language and give you small subtitles on the lens of the glasses. They'll be small, and pretty dim so they don't attract attention, but you'll be able to read it, and know what's going on."

He handed over the extra pairs of glasses and watched as they put them on.

"You know," Keefe said in a would-be casual voice, "there are a lot of humans that think that guys that wear glasses are really nerdy and, you know, ugly."

Sophie smacked his arm right as Fitz mumbled, "for goodness sake," under his breath.

Tam merely shrugged. "You're just jealous because you know you'd never be able to pull it off."

"Oh really?" he challenged. "Biana?" He held his hand out expectantly.

Biana surprisingly obliged, and Keefe put them on.
