As Kai pulled into the therapy office's entrance and parked in an empty space, he noticed Duke rushing towards the car. As Duke climbed into the passenger seat, Kai couldn't help but notice the emotion welling up in his eyes and the nervous way he bit his tongue.
Kai was taken aback by Duke's emotional display. "Hey, hey.. What's wrong, chunk?" he asked, using a familiar and affectionate nickname, concern evident in his voice.
Kai's heart clenched as he heard Duke's sniffles, realizing how much Duke has been struggling with his emotions. Seeing him cover his face, Kai could sense his discomfort with crying in front of others, especially in front of him. Without hesitation, Kai reached out and gently pulled Duke into a comforting embrace.
"I-I'm tired of coming here and explaining myself.. They prolly don't even give a fuck about me for real." Duke uttered, his voice trembling with vulnerability, his eyes glossing over with unshed tears. The weight of his words hung heavy in the air, echoing the deep sense of frustration and loneliness he felt.
Ever since that situation unfolded, Duke's mental health had been on a downward spiral. The weight of the experience had taken a toll on him, causing his emotional well-being to plummet. He found himself unable to muster up an appetite, his sleep schedule was erratic and scarce, and his days slipping had been away as he wasted them in bed.
Kai wrapped his arms around Duke, holding him close in a comforting embrace. "I'm here for you, Dre. You not alone in this, we gone get through it together, i promise." he reassured him softly, offering his unwavering support and understanding.
Duke nodded weakly, sniffling. "O-Okay."
Kai lifted the man's chin, wiping the tears out of Duke's eyes as he gazed towards him. The older could feel Duke's pain. He felt worn out and exhausted from all the crying and staying up all times of the night, stressing.
"You want somethin' to eat baby?" Kai asked, planting a gentle kiss on Duke's forehead.
Duke sniffled and nodded. "Y-Yes." He replied softly, voice slightly trembling.
"Ight, let's go grab sum to eat." Kai said, humming as he shifted the car into drive and pulled away.

Kai and Duke had pulled into a mcdonald's drive thru, where it was a slight line in front of them. Duke rubbed his eyes tiredly as he had woken up then glanced at the menu. "What are you in the mood for?" Kai asked, sliding his hand over his lover.
Duke yawned. "Maybe just a sandwich or somethin' slight, i'm really ain't hungry foreal." He murmured.
Kai nodded. He knew he was, Duke didn't want to admit it. "Ima get a mcchicken, small fry an a ten piece with honey mustard and sweet and sour." He said into the intercom, placing their order.
"12.58$, first window." The person told them. As they waited for the line to move, they shared tender glances and quiet conversation, savoring the comfort of each other's company.
Finally, the lined started moving as they got to the window. As their food was handed out the drive thru, Duke's tired expression softened into a grateful smile as Kai handed him the bag. He took out his sandwich and took a bite of it. Kai watched him fondly, his heart swelling with affection. "You feel better now?"
"Mhmm." Duke muffled, enjoying his food.
As they ate, the fatigue of the day began to lift. It was replaced by a sense of contentment and warmth. The older person leaned in and planted a gentle kiss on Duke's forehead, flashing a faint smile from the younger one. Unconsciously Duke had a feeling brush his body, becoming anxious and worried. It was him overthinking about everything once again. He watched Kai sit back, digging into his nuggets as he ate. 'Is he just waiting to hurt or he really fucks wit me?'
His voice trembled as he softly spoke. "Y-You promise you won't hurt me..?"
Kai raised a brow as he finished his nugget, placing his food down. He questioned, "What are you talking about?"
"You promise not to hurt me? or treat me differently..?" Duke murmured again. Kai frowned, sitting up in his seat in seriousness.
"You know i won't ever hurt you, i care about you too much to do some stupid shit like that. Word to my dead. Look, i know you're overthinkin'. Just chill out, i will never in my life do you wrong. I love you." Kai admitted, raising a hand to touch Duke's. After a brief pause, Duke leaned in and they shared a tender kiss. Their connection evident as their lips met before he pulled back gently.
"I'll never leave your side. I don't care how far we have to go, i'm never leaving you baby." Kai vowed earnestly, his voice filled with determination and love.
"Pinky promise?" Duke eyes lit up, holding his small pinky out.
"I promise." Kai replied softly, his own eyes reflecting sincerity and reassurance as he connected his pinky with Duke's. The younger gushed at the action before kissing Kai for the second time.
