I pop my head halfway out of the pitch black water. Fog lightly coats the water's surface while the stars shine in the night sky. The moon peeking through scattered clouds. I glare at the huge ship that slowly sails the sea. It illuminates light at certain spots where lamps were hung. It gives off an almost comforting feel, but I know what kind of menacing creatures are on board.

Humans is what they call themselves. More like devils in disguise. My mother and father had told me stories about how humans capture us sirens for their own gain. They would sell us off to the dry lands for god knows what or they keep us for their own personal use. Sick! I clench my fists and hiss through my teeth, creating bubbles to rise to the surface of the water.

I look over to my sister, Althea. Her dark brown hair was swaying gently in the water and her focus was on the ship. I don't open my mouth, but speak with my mind directly towards her.

"Are you ready to do this? We can back out." She turns her attention towards me and responds, "No. I am not backing out. I want to give those pieces of shit a taste of their own medicine." I nod my head in agreement.

Althea and I have been coming to the surface quite a ways away from our home in search for humans. For a while now, we have put together a plan to take down a ship to give back what they give us, pain. After many nights of searching, we have finally found one. It was made of wood with metal accents. Three huge masts shot up towards the night sky and their sails were slightly moving from the soft winds.

Pirate ship? I think that's what mother had called it. She told us that those who ride on the water call themselves pirates. They were dirty, wore ragged clothes, celebrated every night to who knows what and captured anything they saw in the water. These humans are disgusting and should be gone from this precious world.

I nod to my sister once more and we both dove into the water, heading for the ship. The moon gave off a soft glow just under the water's surface and if you look down, it was black. Us sirens could make our way around though. Our eyes were made to navigate through the dark sea. This could give us an advantage with our plan. We wanted to pick them off one by one by using our singing voices. It puts them in a trance and they become oblivious of their actions. We use our singing in case of danger, while hunting and in the case, attacking.

Althea stops on the side closest to us and I swim underneath to go on the other side. I pop my head out of the water once more but this time I hear voices. Laughing and cheering was coming from up above. I roll my eyes before I was about to project my voice, but then I saw a man approach the edge and quickly shut my mouth. He leaned up against the ledge and looked up at the moon. He wore a thin white shirt with a deep v neck. His pants were black as it closely hugged his legs. Nice black shoes where on his.... feet? If I could recall father telling me when he explained their anatomy to my sister and I.

What? This man is not ragged at all. Nothing like mother and father had told me. He looked like he took care of himself. His black hair fell just past his eyes and pushed to the side. The man looked down from the sky and directly on me. His eyes......

*Bu-BUM*

As soon as we make eye contact, my eyes widened and then immediately closed in pain. I clench the area of my chest where my heart is. What is this?? What's going on? I feel pain in my heart. I quickly open my eyes and look up at the man once more. He was tightly gabing his shirt with one hand and holding himself up on the ledge with the other.

*Bu-BUM*

Again... Wait. Is he hurting too?

*Bu-BUM* *Bu-BUM*

The feeling was getting worse and I am unable to keep myself above the water. The pain becomes so unbearable and I scream out in pain. As on que, I see something splash into the water. Bubbles quickly rise to the surface of the water and I am able to see what it was or should I say, who. My eyes widen as I see it's the man from the ship. I want to swim away, but my tail fails me. Only allowing him to swim closer to me.
