Only Friends is one of the BL's that I watched just for the guilty pleasure, but the only thing that kept me watching was the Sand Ray portions.
The actual story revolves around Mew, the protagonist, but I literally skipped most of the TopMew scenes just to watch the Sand Ray story. Their performance, their character depth, and the way they made us think about them even after the show ended are splendid.
The whole series gives more importance to lust than love, but Sand and Ray's characters just make us forget about the lust part. Even their intimate scenes felt more divine than lustful.
Ray's performance literally made my heart melt. His need for sand in his life and the way he craves for sand's attention always made me root for them more.
spoiler: even in the scene where he is okay with threesome with Sand's ex, it made me think that Ray is more afraid of Sand leaving him for his ex, that he agreed to share him rather than lose him. And the way he said, "If Sand only needs him, then he will deal with his ex himself if Sand doesn't," made me shiver.
