The weight of my father's revelation settled heavily on my  shoulders as I ventured back to the study the following day. The golden light filtering through the stained glass windows cast a warm glow over the room, but my  thoughts were anything but tranquil.

As I  entered the Study  , King Hayden looked up from his desk, his eyes reflecting a mixture of concern and resolve.

"Son you startled me!", said King Hayden. He regarded his son thoughtfully before speaking. "So have you found your mate or half-human mutal force yet?", he spoke sternly.

"I told you, she said no!", Johnathan shouted.
"Cheer up, son", the King said emphatically. "She is no match for the Dragon Slay Queen. Victoria", he said proudly.

"I am a striving scientist, not a romantic!", Johnathan exclaimed.
Five months later....
Ember Blue Larkins, my sister was excited for me to come home with a mate, she had just come back from her mountain top fortress.
I want to be Alpha, but since I am half human, no way will I even get the second thumbs up of approval.

My dad, the Alpha, and my mom, Tfifany, hate me because I do not have a mate. I'm 21 and went to Earth to study a degree. Even though I want to be an Alpha I have no clue on how to rule the country.
"Dad does not want me to go back to Earth now because he thinks I cannot protect myself", I say angrily.
Victoria Sighs.

Bro, you have to try! You have to go see her again, Victoria says excitedly.

See her again, but how?, I whisper.
"I could take you as my mate.", he realized. 
"No that was my dad's plan", he thought.
I put Ember on the speaker phone.
"Ember, what do you think?", I say into the phone.

"Stop joking around! I feel like...", Ember remembers again what happened to me .

"I'm going for a walk.", I sigh.

"Victoria! Book a plane ticket to South Africa. I need to go back to work tomorrow", I say in a jolly mood.

"Dude, you can't just order me. Number one I am not your secretary, and two I am not your agent either", Victoria fumes.

"What about those somossas I promised you?", he looks at her with puppy eyes.

"Ok fine you win, plane ticket booked. Love you like a sister", she replies.

"Love you like a sister, brother, friend,mentor", I smile.

A few hours after...
"Father," Johnathan began to walk his way to this father's study yet again , his voice reflecting the weight of his newfound knowledge, "I have been pondering the significance of what you told me. The idea that the only way for me to inherit the key is by finding a mate—can you perhaps shed more light on this?"
The key is a symbol of our family's legacy, a token that holds the power to unlock the ancient knowledge and responsibilities that have been passed down through generations. It is intrinsically tied to the bond between a dragon rider and their mate."

Johnathan's brow furrowed as he absorbed his father's words. "But why is finding a mate the condition for inheriting the key? What does it signify?"

A surge of determination welled up within Johnathan as he processed his father's explanation. "I understand.
