Colours

He left me waiting, unheard, and trapped,
He went in Khakee and returned in tricolour wrapped,
Two months ago, I was in crimson, shimmering with glow,
Now I'm here in white, standing pristine like the mountains of snow.

Standing and waiting, for someone to cross these borders,
Come and take me off on distant orders,
No letters, no calls, ardently holding back a tear,
The obvious, now I had started to fear.

His shirt still smells of him, so fresh,
Reminding his oath sworn upon his blood and flesh,
Nation first mission always, he said,
His country was his first love, whether live or dead.

They broke my bangles, and with every crack,
Broke my heart into a shuddering slack,
They rubbed away the vermilion on my head,
Life was no more a rose adorned bed.

Should I mourn melancholy and pain,
Or should I try again,
From my duties I've been retired,
Like a soldier who's drench tired.

The society shunned me, left me alone,
Vulnerable and insecurity prone,
No temple was I allowed to enter,
But little do they know, death is a pious surrender.

My hands, which once held the wedding garland round his head,Now only pick up flowers as offerings to the dead,My hands, they no more adorn his name,Legally I only hold his surname

My hands, which once held the wedding garland round his head,
Now only pick up flowers as offerings to the dead,
My hands, they no more adorn his name,
Legally I only hold his surname.

Why can't I wear red, why can't I adorn and dress?
Why am I mistreated like a mess?
Why is my life dependent on someone's son,
But I'm not respected and revered like one.

At least three colors are adorned by a knight,
Then why am I limited only to white,
They wrap the dead in a bright shade,
And leave the alive only in the dark shade.

Darkness isn't the absence of light,
For ultimately all colours fade into white,
My palette will paint, with valour and might,
Gollden like daylight, shimmering bright.
