The birds chirped loudly as the sun rose over the horizon. Mother birds began to feed their younglings, while the fathers watched over their nests. Two mother birds in particular were fighting over a worm that just came out of the ground while the fathers looked at each other and shrugged

Sun shined brightly through a window and illuminated the entire room in light. A groan could be heard as a small unicorn foal dug himself into his bed and under the blankets. Letting out a sigh, the foal then fell back into his slumber

But alas, all good things must come to an end, as the door to his room opened wide and in stepped in his unicorn mother. She spotted her son hiding under the mass of blankets and let out a small laugh

"Come on Y/n. Time to get up" She said

The foal, named Y/n, let out an audible groan

"Couple more years please" I said shutting my eyes

Mom let out a laugh as she used her magic to lift the blanket, to which I responded by using my own, causing a tug of war between me and my mom over the blanket

Mom laughed

"Look how strong you are already! Practically making me use every inch of my weak old bones" Mom joked

"Then succumb to your fate and leave me be!" I said

Mom laughed once more before actually trying to win the tug of war and pulled the blanket off of me. I groaned in annoyance as the light blinded me, even when I closed my eyes

"Whyyyy?" I cried

"I know, I know. It was a good summer break. But alas you gotta go" Mom said

"But it's boring! I learn nothing!" I said

"Your report card says otherwise" Mom said

"Because it's all pointless busywork!" I argued

Mom sighed

"I still don't get why you hate school so much. You used to love it" Mom said

"Because it was actually fun. Now it's all remembering names and dates along with unnecessarily long and complex equations!" I said

I got out of bed and used my magic to raise my bag and walked into the kitchen. I pulled out a packet of pop tarts and looked at the clock on the wall. I had enough time till school started, so I can take my time a bit

Mom walked by me with a bag of her own. She worked an office job in the town hall, which is actually quite boring. Nothing big really ever happens. It's a wonder how she is so happy all time

We walked out of the house and made our way to a crossroad in the middle of town. One led to mom's job and the other was the dreadful school building

"Well, see you after school dear!" Mom said hugging me with one hoof

I groaned and hugged her back before walking slowly down the crossroad leading to the school. Kids walked by me with their parents seeing them off for their first day back, waving them inside the school and cracking jokes with them

Now you might wonder, why doesn't my mom do this? Well, since mom has a high ranking position in an office job she usually can't go to any event I have, which is why I'm not in any kind of band or choir or any kind of club outside of school hours

What's the point if she isn't there to see my work?

"Ah hello Y/n! Ready for another year of learning?" The teacher, Mrs Cleanbell, asked

I just gave her a groan and walked by her, entering the school. Walking past the desks holding other foals, I sat in the middle of the left side of the schoolhouse, in a seat I perfectly estimated to be the best
