"What could you possibly be thinking so hard about on a day like this?" Jacob's booming voice bellowed as he approached the girl.

The boy's hulking frame collapsed into the spot in the sand beside her, addressing Sabrina with a playful nudge.

Sabrina smiled dreamily as she admired the way in which the sun had hit him, circling him with a warm, ethereal glow.

"Oh, nothing," she casually replied, "Just how adorable you boys look shoving each other around like children. It's real attractive."

Jacob rolled his eyes at her sarcasm and dropped his jaw in offence, a disbelieving chuckle leaving his lips.

"Oh, yeah? You say that like you bawling your eyes out during E.T last week was any better?" He retorted smugly, knowing he had a point.

Sabrina threw her hands up, taking her turn to be offended.

"Hey! I'm an ugly crier and that movie was sad! Sue me!" She declared with a huff, frustratedly crossing her arms over her chest as Jacob laughed, "And I thought you said that I wasn't that bad."

"I lied," he deadpanned.

Sabrina's face fell and her cheeks tinted pink with sudden embarrassment.

"Oh."

Jacob laughed that loud resounding laugh and shook his head. It was the kind of laugh that you could tell came straight from his belly and was just so free of all restraint that Sabrina could feel the vibration of his chuckles where she sat.

"Yeah, you're not built for sadness. You should probably just stick to smiling. You were never meant to cry."

And just like that, with but a few words, Sabrina was like putty in Jacob's hands. Her stomach flopped, butterflies manically fluttering around in there as a warm sensation bloomed in her chest.

As Sabrina sat there, cheeks burning and a lingering yearning in her chest that begged for her to reach out and pull him close, her gaze got trapped in the depths of his eyes.

And it just made her think about how beautiful they were.

You see, people always talk about how gorgeous green or blue or even hazel eyes can be but they never really tell you just how mesmerising brown eyes can be.

Basking in the glow of the sunlight, the deep brown colour of Jacob's eyes swirled into pools of honey, melting from rich chocolate into golden rays of sunlight circling an eclipse. They were the kind of gold so dazzling that their brilliance rivalled that of the sun itself.

"Hey, Lovebirds!" Embry hollered over to them, snapping Sabrina out of her haze.

Quil and Embry stood on the shore with large sticks in their hands, their stances poised for a sword fight.

"You two just gonna sit there making Googly eyes at each other all day or are you going to stand up and fight for the title of champion?!" Quil yelled, chuffing out his chest and positioning his stick sword in front of Embry's.

Jacob and Sabrina exchanged mischievous grins. Both silently challenging one another.

Without wasting another moment, the two were off, pushing and shoving each other as they raced towards their two friends, eager to join the fun.

With her mental state having vastly improved over the last five months — panic attacks only occurring on the odd occasion now — Sabrina finally felt like she'd reached the absolute happiest that she'd ever been.

If only it could've lasted just a little longer.
