"I never lie." Nancy insisted.

One hour later
Kate is currently trimming the hair of her regular customer Mrs.Nichols. She lost her husband to cancer five years ago.
"How are you doing, Kate?" Mrs.Nichols asked.
"Hanging in there, I guess." Kate replied.
"Been on any dates?" She asked Kate.
"Not you too, Mrs.Nichols." Kate mentioned.
"You know you can call me Betty." She insisted.
"Betty, my co-worker asked me the same question." Kate said.
"Dear, you should be on dates. You're pretty and still quite young. Men must be chasing you all the time." Betty mentioned.
"Just the opposite, actually." Kate replied. "I come with a package deal. It's a deal breaker."
"Men don't like cute little Ava?" Betty frowned.
"I wouldn't say they don't like her. It's more about the fact of raising another man's child." Kate explained.
"Those men are idiots." Betty said. "Did you hear about the young man who rode into town on a motorcycle? I've been hearing that he's very handsome."
"Wait, isn't he too young for you?" She joked.
"I may be old, but it doesn't mean I'm blind." Betty teased. "So how is it in our small town you haven't seen our newest resident?" Betty asked Kate.
Kate shrugged her shoulders. "I've been busy and it wasn't that long ago Ava and I got back from our trip to Wisconsin."
"Dear, I'm giving you a warning right now. When you see him, you might become overwhelmed from his handsomeness." Betty teased.
"Okay, now I know for sure that you're exaggerating." Kate chuckled.
"He's tall. He has blonde hair and it's slicked back. My granddaughter said he looks like the guys on the covers of the books called...shoot, I forgot the name. She just told me the other day. How could I forget it already? I guess that's what you get when you're old." Betty got frustrated.
"Did you mean Harlequin books?" Kate tried to help out.
"Bingo. You hit the nail on the head." Betty said.
"Okay Betty, you're all set." Kate cleaned the hair with the big brush. "Cynthia will accept your payment at the front desk."
"It was nice chatting with you, Katie." Betty said. "Don't forget what I said."
"I won't. I will keep an eye out for the newest Harmony resident." Kate said.

After Kate got done with her shift, she decided to stop by the grocery store and buy a couple of items for the rest of the week. She bought two boxes of mac 'n' cheese for Ava because they seem to be her latest food craving. They tend to eat it together when they're watching a movie.
Kate walked back to her car and unlocked the trunk. She put the paper bags in the trunk and closed it. She walked to the driver's door and was about to unlock it when a movement from across the street caught her attention.
A tall blond man exited from the bank. Kate couldn't help but look at him. He definitely had the slicked hair like the women at the salon mentioned. Could this really be the new guy in town? He looked very serious and was looking around the street.
Jax got the feeling that he's being watched and he was right. He looked across the street and he saw a woman with short blond hair leaning against a car. His gaze focused on her.
Kate realized that she got caught looking. Jax's gaze was intense. He was practically glaring. He stood still and stared at the blond woman for two whole minutes before he finally turned his head and walked along the sidewalk.
Kate didn't know what to think. No man has ever watched her with so much intensity. She felt a bit intimidated, but there was also another feeling she couldn't determine. Kate unlocked the door and sat down. "What was that?" She said out loud.
