Lauren Roundtree: I was the bassist. Me and Chuck, a duo. She laughed. That guy was as weird little dude.

Warren Rojas: For that next year, it felt like all we did was practice. If my hands were red and raw by the time I got to bed, I knew it was a good day. He smiled. We had a lot of good days back then.

Graham Dunne: I never doubted it for a second. He scoffed. Not everyone felt the same.

The five of them laughed as Warren pulled the van to a stop outside Chuck's house.

"There he is," Eddie kicked the door open.

"Why's it closed?" Graham asked.

"Hey man. Why's the garage door closed?" Billy asked.

"Look, I don't know how to say this, so I'm just gonna say it. I got into College."

Warren laughed, "Alright."

"We didn't even know you applied," Lauren said.

"Was this like, before or after I spent all my money on this van?" Warren asked.

"I know, I'm sorry. It's just... they have a really good dental program."

"So, what? You're gonna be a dentist now?" Billy asked

"I don't know. I guess so."

"Chuck, come on. Alright, please don't do this. Alright? Not now. Right? Not when things are starting to happen."

"What do you mean, "just starting to happen"?"

"Dude," Lauren stepped forward, "We open for the Winters on Thursday. And that's just the begining."

"This is a real opportunity."

"So is this," Billy shot back.

"Billy, I know this is your dream, man, but just because you want something to happen, doesn't mean it's going to. Do you really think there's a future here?"

"Well, yeah Chuck, I do."

"You're out of your fucking mind." He stood up and walked back into his house.

"Great cardigan, Chuck!" Warren called after him. "Very dentist-like."

"We gotta cancel the gig," Eddie said.

"No, man. We're not cancelling," Billy responded.

"Yeah? What are we gonna do?" Graham asked.

"We're not cancelling."

Billy scratched his head for a moment.

"Eddie, you switch over to bass."

Eddie laughed, "No."

They just looked at him.

Eddie sighed, "For how long?"

"Thanks, man. We owe you." Billy said.

Lauren: To this day I don't understand why we had to have two bassists. I could do it and Eddie could've stayed on guitar and everyone would've been happy.

Eddie Roundtree: This was the one topic I agreed with Lauren on. I didn't get it.

Billy Dunne: He softly laughed and shook his head. One bass would get over powered by three guitars. But with Lauren and Eddie on bass and me and Graham on guitar, it was even. It was a better sound.
