The following are not, official definitions for the two sides; however; I do believe that they are important functions in the brain and so, they should at the least be mentioned; in summary.
-Depression: Sometimes life happens but, there is no pause button. The brain creates/uses depression, like a pause button. (This is why you feel/act, paused) It comes in two forms, Emotional and Functional. All people; regardless of what side they are stronger on; alternate between emotional and functional depression. Laying in bed and crying is the emotional. Getting a shower and going to work (a need and a need) are functional. The reason the person is still considered depressed is because, the brain still feels/acts, paused.
Depression can also be caused by other sources. For example; foreign materials in the body; like allergens; if it’s not recognized; or certain medicines. This is because, it’s a stranger to your brain and so, it doesn’t make sense and, unless it can make sense of it; it will continue being a stranger.
(Side note: This may be one of the reasons for medicine resistance.)
-Emotional Depression; the sad is very showy. Crying, sad/hurt expressions. Staring at walls, barely gets out of bed, rarely goes out. Detaches from people, things and, hopeful ideas.
-Functional Depression; mostly without expression, may feel almost robotic and, very detached. Accomplishes things but, only what is needed or, already programmed to make sense.
The stronger the depression the more, the survival mode kicks in and so, need becomes the only focus; which then turns into, an over-need. No want; the emotional side only acts in the feeling, the show and, the imagining of possible ‘outs’.
Also, I will not speak for certain however; in theory; it is not possible to cure depression. Get rid of it; yes, but not cure it. This is because, the brain has learned how helpful depression can be. For example; when you’re sick, no one asks you to do anything. Same as when you are in a depression; especially emotional depression. You are detached to the point of not being able to do things. Now keep in mind; for conversation sake; that this is more of subconscious brain decision. Meaning; the person is not in control; the quiet part of the brain is and, it’s not always open to talk. It speaks when it needs to and, only to whom it needs to. So, getting rid of depression is like; teaching an old dog new tricks. It’s not impossible but...you better have a darn good, makes better sense, reason...to make that change.
-Anxiety: The brain becomes anxious when it is searching for answers to make sense of things. Such as the; does not make sense; questions that are stuck in the brain.
(Note: Actually, the original process of anxiety is just energy and, it is neither positive nor, is it negative. Example: We get excited about going to an amusement park. We also get anxious about going to an amusement park. Both involve energy; as well as; ‘the need to know what to expect’.
In both examples; we become dreamy as, the mind searches to answer that question. Remember; the brain does not view positive or negative the same way we do. When searching for answers; the brain will either use more ‘what is’ or, facts or; it will use more ‘what if’ or dreams. The imagination then creates scenarios that the mind can agree to (believing, what to expect is, not the same as knowing) because, it makes sense and/or, feels good. The difficulty is when there is not enough information. The more emotionally minded, doesn’t need facts (they sometimes, create their own). They also have a stronger ‘roll with it’. All this enables them to believe what to expect. The more functionally minded, need more facts to create those scenarios. Without that, safe, scenario, the ‘need to know what to expect’ is not appeased and so, going to the amusement park is unacceptable (too scary).
(My own side note: I do not believe that it is “too scary”. Whereas; there may be some fear, I believe the real answer is, that something is unacceptable or, just ‘no’. The difficulty is, we’ve been trained that saying “no” is not enough. Fear and, being scared; or, nowadays, triggered; are acceptable ways of backing out of something. So consciously/subconsciously, our brains have learned to act scared. Which by the way; that ‘lying’ could cause an imbalance in some people; especially those whom are more ‘law’ abiding. So just food for thought...imagine the imbalance in someone; since early childhood; whose brain has been ‘forced’ to ‘lie’ like that. I realize that may be difficult to picture but, just look around at all the; especially functionally minded; people that are, not doing anything; like they need to be programmed or, told; simply because, there is a tiny question in their mind asking; what’s right and, what’s wrong?
