At the family dinner, Anthony and Elisa were in Elisa's room when Sophie walked in. She was wearing a beautiful cocktail dress. Ian walks not long after wearing a dark blue suit.

"Hey baby," Elisa said, kissing Sophie's lips.

"Eww, gross," Ian said in disgust. Sophie rolled her eyes.

Anthony sees Elisa stimming nervously.

"Elisa, are you okay?" Anthony asked.

"Sí, estoy bien, es que, um, estoy un poco, nervioso/Yeah, I'm fine, it's just, um, I'm a bit, nervous," Elisa said nervously, flapping their hands.

Elisa speaks Spanish when they're nervous.

"Why would you be nervous?" Sophie asked.

Elisa and Anthony both groan. "Every dinner, there is drama between my dad and his mom, which spreads to other family members to argue about anything," Elisa said.

"Anything?" Ian asked.

"Anything," Anthony said. "But they usually argue about either politics or religious stuff,"

"Oh, god," Sophie said.

"Yeah, let's hope nothing happens this time," Elisa said.

"Trust me, that won't happen," Anthony said.

About 40 minutes later, dinner's ready. Both Anthony and Elisa started to get nervous. They both knew what was going to happen next.

"Are you nervous?" Elisa adds before they and Anthony go into the living room.

"Of course, what if my mom says something that upsets your dad?" Anthony asks.

"Better question, when hasn't your mom said something that upset my dad?" Elisa said.

Anthony and Elisa laugh. They have to have some fun before the disaster that is their family starts. Ian and Sophie decided to go home so they don't cause any more trouble.

As they walk into the living room Elisa's mom tells them to come to the kitchen.

((Their family is known to barely speak or understand English but Anthony and May don't speak Spanish very well so Elisa has to translate for them.))

"¿Dónde están Ian y Jess?/Where are Ian and Jess?" Elisa's mom said.

"Decidieron irse a casa para no causar ningún problema/They decided to go home so they didn't cause any trouble," Elisa answered.

"What did she say?" Anthony asked.

"Dude, are you serious?" Elisa said.

"Elisa, no seas grosero con tu primo/Elisa, don't be rude to your cousin," Elisa's mom said

"primo segundo, mamá/step-cousin, mom," Elisa said.

"Exactly, don't be rude to your step-cousin," Anthony said.

Elisa rolls their eyes. Anthony chuckles.

"Okay, are you ready?" Anthony said.

"Not really, but you're here so...," Elisa said, hesitantly.

"Nothing can go wrong," Anthony said confidently.

"Oh, don't be so cocky," Elisa said, frustrated. Anthony sticks out his tongue.

The dinner has started and Elisa and Anthony are starting to get anxious, but they have each other. Right?

"So Elisa, have you found a boyfriend yet?" Anthony's mom said.

"Mamá, para/mom, stop," Anthony said.

"Que? Solo tengo curiosidad/What? I'm just being curious," Anthony's mom said.

Elisa chuckles nervously. "No, no tengo novio/No, I don't have a boyfriend,"

"Oh, es una pena, pero algún día encontrarás al hombre adecuado/Oh, that's such a shame, but you'll find the right man someday.," Anthony's mom said. Elisa and Anthony look at each other, they both feel very uncomfortable.

"La cena está lista/Dinner's ready," Anthony's grandma said. "Thank god." Elisa thought.

Dinner started very normal, as usual, until...

"Entonces Elisa, ¿cómo estuvo la iglesia?/So Elisa, how was church?" Anthony's mom said.

Elisa stops eating, looks at Anthony, waiting for him to say something, and then looks at his mom.

"Fue bueno/It was good," Elisa lied. Elisa's side of the family is not Christian but Anthony's side is.

"Bueno bueno/Good, good," Anthony's mom said.

"Discúlpame/Excuse me. Anthony," Elisa said, pulling Anthony into the kitchen.

"What?" Anthony asked.

"Why didn't you stop your mother as usual?" Elisa asked.

"Elisa, I can't do that, she's my mom," Anthony whispered.

"You did it before," Elisa whispered, angrily.

"Well, yeah, but...," Anthony said, hesitating.

"Anthony please, stop with the excuses," Elisa said.

"Niños, ¿van a permanecer en la cocina por mucho más tiempo?/Kids, are you going to stay in the kitchen for much longer?" Elisa's grandpa asked, sweetly.

"Viniendo, Abuelo/coming, grandpa," Elisa said.

Elisa gives Anthony a quick dirty look before they leave. "What?" Anthony asked.
Elisa rolls their eyes.

"Pensé que Sophie vendría/I thought Sophie was coming," Elisa's grandpa said.

"Ella necesitaba irse a casa/She needed to go home," Elisa said.

"¿Es ella como tu novia?/Is she like your girlfriend?" Anthony's dad said.

"No, Elisa es hetero, no tiene novia. ¿Bueno, tú lo haces?/No, Elisa is straight, she doesn't have a girlfriend. Well, do you?" Anthony's mom said. "That transphobic, homophobic bitch." Elisa thought.

"¿Y si lo es? ¿Qué hay de malo en eso?/And what if she is, What's wrong with that?" Elisa's dad said.

"Es repugnante/It's disgusting," Anthony's mom said.

"Ah, de verdad. No te ves disgustada/Oh really. You don't look disgusted," Elisa's dad said.

They argued like this for the next hour, Elisa was again waiting for Anthony to say something, but he said nothing.

After an hour Elisa had enough, they stood up and went outside into their car, hoping Anthony would follow, but Anthony didn't. He was still inside. Elisa waited 2 extra minutes for him until they drove off, they felt the urge rushing over them.
