It's 2 o'clock in the afternoon when Rhysal texts you to ask when your parents are going to arrive. It feels like your whole world has been thrown off its axis, suspended in space as you hover in a vacuum, frozen in time.

You have completely forgotten that your parents were coming over to visit. You gather your things and wave at Yuta, who's sitting across you in the café, thanking him for his company during lunch. He bids you goodbye, and you rush off, feet flying across the concrete pavement as you make your way to the bus stop.

At the bus stop, you tap your foot impatiently against the floor as you stare at your phone. You tell Phoebe and Rhysal to help get the house ready, and to clean up what they can before you reach home and tidy up your room.

The gears are turning in your head as you try to figure out a timeline that works—you asked Doyoung to have dinner with you, and he's got your notebook, so you absolutely need to see him in person to talk to him about it. However, your parents will definitely be expecting you to have a meal with them, so you can't really stand them up either. At the very least, you have to make them a home-cooked meal as an apology for not being able to eat with them.

You think about it while tapping your card and boarding the bus, wondering if you'll have enough time to stop by the grocery store to buy meat and fresh vegetables. Your fridge is usually chock-full of snacks, since you and your flatmates tend to order takeout when you're home, so there isn't much for you to cook with.

After that, you'll have to tidy up your room so that your parents can sleep there. They don't live very far away, but they'll only be coming over in the late evening, so you don't want them to have to drive back when they're tired, and you're not particularly willing to send them back either, since you don't have a car and would have to take the subway back if you did send them home.

Even after all of that, you'll have to make them a delicious meal that can pacify them, and make up for the fact that you forgot that they were coming over. Maybe you can treat them to lunch tomorrow in hopes that they'll forgive your oversight. You fidget with your keys, and glance at your phone to check the time. 2.30 pm. You're going to have to be extremely efficient.

You exit the supermarket nearby with two reusable bags full of food. There are apples, to create an illusion of healthy living, and a huge amount of pasta. You've also bought butterheads and cherry tomatoes for a salad, just so that your parents won't realise how last minute this meal is.

It's 3 o'clock when you enter your house, pressing the doorbell with your elbow. Phoebe opens the door with a stricken look, and points wordlessly at Rhysal, who holds up her phone. "Your parents said they'd be here in an hour," the latter says.

You curse under your breath. "You've got to be kidding." You place the bags on the table, shaking out your wrists, before frowning as you process what Rhysal has just said. "Hey, why'd they text you instead of me?"
