' A Second Chance. '

“Of course we will,” Levi muttered. “We don't have a choice.”

“We never did,” Erwin agreed. “Our only option is to survive.”

Meanwhile, Historia and Ymir were laying on the ground. Historia laid on Ymir's chest, fast asleep. Ymir held her now-girlfriend tight. She's so adorable when she's asleep... she thought.

A loud laugh startled Ymir and woke Historia. She looked up, spooked, but calmed down the minute she saw Ymir's concerned, loving eyes.

“That startled me, too.” Ymir laughed softly. “Go back to sleep, darling. Everything's okay.”

Historia nodded, settling down again. She was back asleep in seconds. She must be really tired... Ymir thought, placing a soft kiss on her sleeping beauty's forehead. Sleep well, my queen.

Eren narrowed his eyes, looking over his resources. What can I do with all this?

If it's a brain infection, I have to figure out how can make a cure work... if I can even find a cure.

He shoved everything aside, resting his head on his desk. He'd just started working and he was already tired. This isn't good. I'll never figure things out if I don't pick myself up.

Then he heard footsteps approaching. The door creaked open a moment later.

“Oi, Eren.”

Eren forced himself not to jump when he heard Levi's voice. “Yes, Heichou?” he asked calmly.

“Don't overwork yourself. Take a break when you're tired. Got it?” Levi wandered closer, putting a hand on Eren's shoulder.

Eren sighed. “I know,” he responded dully. They began to go back and forth like that, Levi reminding Eren if important things, Eren replying dully as he worked.

“Get enough rest.”

“I will.”

“Make sure you eat.”

“I will.”

“Hydrate yourself.”

“I know.”

“Take time for you.”

“Sure.”

“Eren...” Levi sighed. Eren looked up, noticing for the first time how drained the captain looked.

“Heichou, take your own advice.” Eren paused. “Please.”

Levi paused, then squeezed Eren's shoulder. “Sure, Jaeger.”

“Thank you...” Eren breathed. Levi nodded once, pulling up a chair beside Eren. “Well? What are we working with?”

“I've ruled out some stuff. Studying some other things. It shouldn't take me too long,” Eren replied. “If you say so,” Levi shrugged. “Anything you need help with?”

“I'll need test subjects when I figure something out,” Eren answered. “But I'll do that when I figure something out. If I figure something out..”

“Look, Eren. Take all the time you need, okay? Don't be afraid to say you need a break. We'll understand. Or, at least, I will,” Levi assured him.

Eren paused and looked up at Levi. “Yeah, uh.. thanks, Heichou..” He suddenly found thanking his captain much harder than it was when he was younger. He let out a sad sigh.

“You're still that terrified 10-year-old boy you were when the zombies took over inside, aren't you?” Levi asked. “I- did you read my mind..?” Eren blinked at him.

Levi shook his head. “I read your eyes. I know you're afraid. But we'll be fi—”

“That's it!” Eren slammed his book shut, interrupting Levi. “I think I did it!”
