Chapter 1.

Shelby's POV//

My day just can't get any worse than now. I caught my boyfriend Caleb fucking my best friend in our apartment not even five minutes ago. He kicked me out and told me he was done, what the fuck is happening right now?

I spent the time in the elevator to get my life together and the bags in my hands. I threw those in the back of my 2012 Toyota Corolla. I texted Caleb before I hopped in, a good ole "fuck you" before I sped off to work.

I was an hour late and I thought I had texted my boss but I guess the universe just wants to fuck me so badly today that it never went through.

I looked at my phone just as I hopped out of my car, running into the office building when I saw my boss had called me ten times. Shit. "Miss Martin, my office. Now!" I barely made it through the door when Michael was in my face.

This was it, my job. I was going to be fired. I'm not going to lie, this isn't my first time being late or not being here at all so I'd understand but I really need this money now that Caleb is balls-deep in my ex-friend. "Sir I am so sorry I thought I text-"

"Stop right there Shelby. I'm done with excuses. You're what, twenty-three? That's an adult's age but to me, you still act like a child. When you got this job it was because I knew what a hard worker you were but when you got here it was like you said fuck it, fuck the ten thousand as the bonus sign, fuck the three thousand you make every goddamn week! I was wrong about hiring you-"

"Sir I-"

"You're fired Shelby, I can't keep picking up where you drop shit off, I am your boss, not your friend so it is time to let you go" I felt those tears stinging my eyelids again. Great, just fucking great. I give him a nod because I know how bad I've fucked up, so fucking badly.

I gulp and stand and give him a smile, "Mr. Volkov, I was delighted to be able to work under you once in my lifetime and I am sorry that I came to you in such a hard time in my life. I-"

"I don't want the sob story, Shelby. Plus I need a date for tonight's  Awards ceremony, Mirko Brooks will be there and I know his date is a fine fucking piece to have, so I need something even hotter in the most respectful way" My jaw dropped, first, he fires me and then cuts me off and now he wants me to be his date?

"Uh-" The door flew open, his assistant coming in. Her cheeks were red from embarrassment, "I'm sorry sir I-" Behind her appeared a big man who everyone knew. "Mirko! I didn't know I'd be seeing you before awards tonight" Mr. Volkov said as he walked in. The man looked down at me and then back to Mr. Volkov before reaching out to shake his hand.

"Priorities, I need to speak to you in private," he says casually, then looks back at me. "Right- Shelby go gather your things, I'll send you a message about tonight but otherwise, I never want to see you step foot into my goddamn office again do you hear me loud and clear?" He says and I nod because what else could I do?

He might be being disrespectful but I've disrespected him more over the last six months by being an employee. I didn't care that the tears started falling as I cleaned out my cubicle with all my things.

"Out so soon?" I look up at my ex-coworker Jenny, the biggest smirk on her face. She's been fucking Brian who is also Mr. Volkov, since I started here but now she's been spreading rumors that I have. i swear iove never hated anyone more than I did the woman that stood before me."I thought he'd keep you a bit longer, you know since the two of you fuck" she says and then laughs at herself as she twirls her hair.

Fuck it. My boyfriend cheated on me, I no longer have anywhere to live, I got fired and now my ex-coworker who has fucked with me too long is now fucking with me again. I slapped her so hard that everyone around stopped talking. "Oh no you didn't-" When she came at me, I pushed her onto my desk and behind sending blows to her face.
