"Well I don't need to talk to you", I quip, and he gives me a pleading look.

"Fine", I groan.

"Can we talk alone?", he asks, and I roll my eyes.

"Don't take too much for granted Jason. I said you can talk to me, but I don't trust you enough to even consider going anywhere with you."

He frowns a bit, but nods. "Let your friends walk ahead, we'll follow behind", he says, his voice almost sneering at the word friends.

I turn around to look at Steph and Quinn, and seek their opinions. Steph shrugs a bit, letting me know that it's my choice, while Quinn gives a fearful nod.

"Walk ahead guys", I say, and I watch them turn around and start to move off. When they are out of earshot, Jason and I start walking.

"What are you playing at Kay", he says, looking sideways to glance at my face. "I know you can't stand goody two shoes, so why are you dating him?"

"Who I date is none of your business Jason", I say angrily. "You made your decision, now I get to make mine."

"You've never liked the guy", Jason continues, as if I hadn't spoken. "You prank him nonstop, and always complain about what a spoil sport he is. And besides, he isn't even that good at football anyway. He's just there because coach likes him for some reason. He's the type of guy who sees you as some charity project, a bad girl in need of saving. He doesn't actually have feelings for you."

His words hit home, but I refuse to let him think he has won. "Maybe you don't get it Jason. I like Aaron. We were dating even when you and I were 'a thing'", I use air quotes there, and I notice Jason getting red with anger. By now we are out on the football field, and out of the corner of my eye, I can see Steph and Quinn talking with Aaron and Keon. A shirtless Aaron, might I add. I almost drool at how sexy he looks with the sun kissing his abs

I've never been more jealous of the sun before.

Suddenly, I want to rap this conversation up quickly and run to Aaron. I want to tease him, and watch him run his hand through his hair while he adjusts his glasses. These thoughts feel both foreign and familiar to me.

"Maybe I like the good boys, and maybe you just didn't know anything about me at all.", I say, rolling my wyws at Jason who is still looking hungrily at me. "Anyway, what's wrong with your pretty little Amanda?"

Jason scowls. "I don't want to talk about her Kay. She means nothing to me."

He looks at me eagerly, as if expecting me to say the same thing about Aaron, and I have to laugh at how stupid he is.

"Well that's good for you, but if you have any hope of you and I getting back together, you are totally delulu. Maybe you should go and find a girl who's going to have sex with you, but that girl isn't me. But right now I'm totally in love with the hot football captain with his hard abs and god given talent. I can't believe I didn't see it before, but he is worth way more than you."

With that, I start to walk away, but Jason grabs my arm and twists it, forcing me to yell in pain. I drag myself out of his grip, and I am about to kick him in the groin when a gust of wind rushes past me, and Jason flies away in the opposite direction.

"Are you okay", a voice beside me asks, and I turn around to find Aaron standing there.

I am about to answer, when a voice comes from the ground.

"You broke my leg you idiot", Jason groans in pain. "Wait until I get up there. I'll kill you nerd"

Aaron looks like he is about to do more than break Jason's leg, and I am in full support, but then I see coach coming and hold him back.

Jason sees coach too, and immediately makes himself look as pitiful as possible.

"Coach", he says, getting up and hobbling towards him. "Aaron just came out of nowhere and – "

"Cut the crap", Coach says with barely a glance in Jason's direction. "I saw you wrench this poor girl's arm – Aaron's girlfriend too. The way I see it, Aaron was simply being a chivalrous man trying to defend his girl. You're lucky it was only your leg. Let's hope it isn't broken."

As it turns out, darling Jason's leg wasn't broken, only sprained, and he had to be put on bedrest for two days.

"Well we can't practice for two days now", Coach announces to the football team that has now gathered around Jason. "Our kicker is down and needs bedrest, so I advise you to get to have a bit of rest too. You deserve it after practicing daily all week. We'll gather here promptly in two days' time."

"Two days free huh?", I ask, looking at Aaron.

He looks a bit flushed, and I can't blame him after his fight with Jason. I can't help but blush as I think about how fast he was at coming to my rescue. Usually, I like to handle my things by myself, but I feel a warm tingle when I think about

"Yeah. I don't feel like going home yet though", he says with a shudder and a grimace, which makes me have a feeling that home isn't a really nice place for him. I need to find out more about him. And I know just how to do so. I was actually planning to go by myself, but bringing Aaron as company will make the trip twice as delightful.

"Well", I ask with a grin "Why don't we go on a date."

A/N: So, Kayla and Aaron are out on a date. What do you think will happen? Where will she take him? All coming in the next chapter.

Also happy new month loves. I know this is coming in a bit late but better late than never right?😅
