We all grew up together apart from scotty, but what happens when you catch feelings you dont want to admit?
Today was the 4th of July, which meant my quince was almost here. I was in the kitchen helping my mom and Diana make Uchepos, sweet corn tamales from Michoacán (been craving sum for sooo long 😭)
After we put the tamales to cook i went and got ready. We werent super patriotic and we didnt do as much as we did September 16, but we still had a little get together (and by little i mean over 40 people)
I put on a black fitted long sleeve shirt, some random jeans and my black converse.
I was brushing my hair when my door flew open. Kenny walked in with the rest of the gang following him
"HEY GIRLY POP" kenny said in an annoying high pitched voice and sat on by bed
"HEY BESTIE WHATS UP" i say matching his energy
"JUST CAME TO SPILL THE TEA 💅" Kenny said and we all started laughing.
I put on my usual mascara and lip oil and we head down stairs. We saw Benny and his mom their. And Olivia. Ugh
"Nena you look so pretty!" Mari says pulling me in for a hug
"Thanks Mari" i say laughing
"Shes not even that pretty relax" we heard olivia mumble and roll her eyes
"Says you" squints says rolling his eyes back at her
"Yeah yeah you wish you were half as pretty as her" Yeah-Yeah said
"Ok ok cálmense" my mom says even tho she was also clearly done with this bitch too
Benny just stood there quietly looking down. He didnt tell his girlfriend to stop or defend her. Wtf? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At around 6 we had all eaten. The boys LOVED the uchepos we made they basically eat all of them. We headed to the sandlot for a night game. It was going to be weird since we never played night games without benny, but we decided to play anyways. By the time we got to the sandlot the fireworks had started. I loved fireworks because it reminded me of when we went to Mexico and going to la plaza with my family hearing music dancing snd laughing.
I took a quick picture and we started playing. We actually got through a good amount before we all just sat down and stared at the sky in awe.
I took a picture of Kenny and ella and toño and aisha sitting together watching the fireworks. Again that weird feeling
I was laughing and chatting with the boys until the end of the fireworks.
"How bout we go to the diner for some milkshakes?" Kenny asks us
"YESS" we all say
We all got to the diner and sat down in a couple different booths.
We ordered our milkshakes and some fries to share and it was so fun

I was in the middle of an argument with Timmy about pineapple on pizza when i saw someone come into the diner. Olivia.
I expected Benny to some in after her, but it wasn't Benny, it was some other guy. Ik him from somewhere but i didnt know from where.
"Hey guys whos the guy with olivia?" I asked Bertram and Ham since they were sitting in the booth i was at.
"Hes uhh... Oh hes one of Phillips teammates" Ham said and stuffed more fries in his face
I kept looking towards them.
"Oh my god-" i say my jaw dropping
The guys all looked up and followed to where i was look at.
Olivia and Phillips teammate holding hands and then kissing What?
"No fucking way" Bertram said
"What do you mean no fucking way i called it. Squints you owe me five bucks. Told you she was cheating." Yeah-Yeah said taking a sip of his milkshake
I looked over at Aisha and Ella and they both also had the confused facial expressions on their faces.
What were we gonna do? Were we going to tell Benny?
My mind kept spiraling with so many thoughts i didnt hear Toño calling my name.
"Nena? Nena are you ok? Andrea?"
"Huh- what?" I say escaping my daze.
"Estas bien?" He looked genuinely concerned.
"Yeah just tired i guess. Ya es tarde" that was a complete lie. It was barley 10pm and im a night owl. I can stay up for hours after ten. Everyone kept asking me if i was fine but i just kept saying i was tired.
We headed back to our neighborhood and i was still in my little daze when Kenny came up to me
"I know your not ok Nena" he said
There was no point in keeping my little act up anyways since everyone knew I wasnt just tired.
"I dont know i just..i feel bad i guess but i also dont want to feel bad because he just said screw you friends ive had since forever because of a girl he just started talking to." I felt like i could rant to Kenny. He was definitely like my brother. He just nodded and listened to what i had to say
"And i also dont want myself to feel bad for him because it hurt. It hurt so much when he left m- us. When he left us" i say in a smaller voice looking down, then i just felt a pair of arms hug me, then another, then another. Everyone was in a giant group hug in the middle of the sidewalk.
