"IF THIS GOES wrong, i'm blaming you two," caroline pointed at pansy and annie.
"everything will be great," annie assured, "you two will have cute babies."
"as long as they're taller than you," pansy nodded.
caroline immediately straightened, "i am five four, thank you very much!"
"i think that's pushing it," alec said as he walked by.
"doesn't matter," pansy said, "go get your man."
"okay," she breathed out, "i got this."
"you do," annie smiled.
caroline repeated it to herself the whole way to draco's room, until she was standing right in from of his door. "i got this."
he answered just a moment after she knocked on the door. "hey," he glanced over his shoulder, keeping the door mostly closed. "did you need something?"
"i wanted to talk to you," she balled her hands in fists at her sides.
"now's not really a good time," he glanced behind him again.
"did you want to talk later then?"
draco's reply was cut off by another voice. a woman's voice. "babe, come back."
"oh." caroline breathed out.
draco signed, stepped out of the room, and closed the door.
"listen, caroline. you're a nice girl, but you and me?" he gestured between them. "it's not gonna happen. i'm sure another lad would be lucky to have you, but that's not me."
"i wasn't-"
"i heard you talking to the girls, caroline." he ran a hand through his hair. "and it's really sweet that you have a crush on me, but you're only twenty one."
"right," she nodded and averted her eyes so he couldn't see her tears. "that makes sense.
"i really am sorry."
"no, no. you're fine!" she shook her head. "i guess you should probably get back to your- um guest."
and she left. faster than she ever had before. she didn't need him to pity her any more than he had. he was right. he was older than her. and he traveled all of the time. it made sense. it wouldn't work out.
"hey! how'd-" pansy started, but caroline just sped past her and locked herself in her room.
