He finally glances up, words trailing to a slack-jawed silence upon meeting Sujin's eyes for the very first time since, well, what wasn't exactly the ideal first meeting yesterday.
Sujin, just as mortified, is similarly at a loss for words.
It's like a fucking car accident. So jarring, so off-balance... but they just can't seem to look away.
His eyes are browner than she remembers.
What the hell. Did that thought seriously just cross her mind?
"... Jake." Jay finishes his sentence, eyeing the visible tension between the two with a wary gaze, "Everyone just calls him Jake."
"Yeah..." He says, silently studying her demeanor.
It makes her squirm in her seat, "Hey."
"And that's Sujin." Jay tells his friend, still not quite sure what's going on.
"Sujin." Jake repeats to no one in particular. His face and voice are entirely devoid of emotion, and the girl can't quite tell what's going to happen next. Will he tell her off for her behavior on the lawn, or slide into the opposite booth like nothing ever happened?
Neither, she finds out.
The ghost of a smirk starts to play at his lips, and she realizes he's not angry, nor dismissive - but amused by this coincidental turn of events.
"So... suck your dick, huh?"
Jerk.
Jay and Sunghoon immediately catch on, hands clapping over their mouths in unison.
"Oh my god, that was you?!" Jay sputters in disbelief.
Sunghoon, on the other hand, could not be in any less peals of laughter. He clutches at his ribs with one hand, eyes formed into crescent moons as he slaps the table with the other, "Ah, this is just pure gold! Pure freakin' gold!"
"Pipe down, Sunghoon." Jake rolls his eyes, draping his jacket over the back of the seat and sliding in next to his best friend. He cracks a genuine (or is it?) smile at Sujin from across the table, "No hard feelings, right?"
She feels her jaw clench, "Yeah."
Sujin still can't tell whether their first exchange actually affected him or not. But if it did, he's sure as hell doing a great job of not showing it.
He nods, "Welcome."
And just like that, Jake and Sunghoon start to scan the plates passing by them as if the last couple of minutes had just been wiped from their memories.
Sujin frowns.
"Hm... What are we feeling this afternoon..." Sunghoon ponders aloud.
"I don't know, I had a pretty filling breakfast," Jake chuckles, "Maybe just a green tea for me."
"Green tea?" Sunghoon scoffs, "Yeah, right. Jjongie's black card's got us covered today, remember? I, for one, will be having sashimi on sashimi on sashimi!"
