"I'll handle everything with him." I said.

And we talked about other things.

"I'll go check on Dennis and this Eunice." I said as I rose.

"You know where to find the kid." Annabelle said.

I headed to the garden. it was a place that Dennis liked to stay.

He was sitting beside a young girl.. I haven't seen her her before. That must be Eunice.

"I see you've met a new friend." I said as I came closer. He was teaching her Maths. Something that Dennis hardly does.

Dennis didn't look up from his note." I thought you have finally forgotten the orphanage and left."  I noticed a hint of hurt in his voice.

I had not visited the Orphanage for six months and I was the only one that Dennis was open too.

"I was busy and I traveled."

Eunice stood to go but I held her back. " Please stay." I said. And she bowed her head and sat back. I sat down opposite them.

The garden had some round tables.

"How was your trip ?" He asked finally looking up.

"It was nice."

"You got me something?" I always brought back gifts anytime I traveled for Dennis.

I felt pity for the kid. His mom had dropped him off In the orphanage. his mom had gotten into a relationship and had gotten a child which she didn't want.

Dennis has been here for the past thirteen years and I took a liking in him two years ago.

"Sure. It's in the car." Luckily I have gotten two things, a guitar- he always said he wanted to play and he could sing. And I got a wrist watch. I'll give the watch to Eunice, even if she doesn't need it at the time it would be a gift.

"And I heard your Eunice." I said glancing at her. Her head was still bowed as she did not reply.

"She's shy." Dennis said.

"And how come you are talking to her?"

He smiled." I have my ways."

"I heard you got into a fight Dennis." My face became serious.

"It was the guys that started it."

"Stop making excuses Dennis."

"It's not an excuse. They were taunting Eunice and I told them to stop."

I glanced at Eunice and held my stare on Dennis." How did you tell them to stop."

His smile turned to a mischievous grin." Sometimes people need beating to listen."

I sighed. " You can't go around beating everyone. To some people you are like a bully."

"Better to be like a bully than to get trampled on." He said stubbornly.

"Denn-"

"It's my fault Ma." A low soft voice spoke.

I turned to Eunice. She had risen her head and her eyes gleamed with tears.

"It's not your fau-"

"He was trying to defend me." She said and hurriedly ran deeper into the garden.

I turned to Dennis. His grin still in place. " You can't possibly still be mad at me for defending her. Can you ?"

I sighed." Your off the hook now but next time_" I stood up. " I won't take any excuse. Go see Nonso for the gifts. The other gift is for Eunice." I turned to go.
