"James, you coming?"
"Be right there!"
In a hurry I grab my phone and bag and rush down the stairs straight into my brother's car.
"Got everything?" Niel asks.
"Yup!"
"Alright then!"
Niel puts the car in reverse and back out of the driveway.
Over the summer break, I offered my brother, after he complained multiple times about the chaos in his office, to help him out with it.
He gladly accepted it and so did his coworkers.
They apparently really need someone who helps them organize their stuff when they're not around.
In exchange I get paid a small amount.
I already work two different jobs: as a babysitter around our street and in a diner, but most families are on vacation and the diner is currently closed for renovation.
"You remember Lukas right?"
"Lukas with the glasses?"
"No the other one. The one who always had his shirt on backwards."
"Oh yeah I remember. What about him?"
Niel took a left turn.
"He recently got relocated to out station and is now working with me."
Another left turn.
"Oh. Ok."
As far as I remember, Niel and Lukas used to go to police academy together a few years back. I was about thirteen or fourteen and had other things in mind.
Like, why did everyone look at me weird when I said my favorite singer is Lana del Rey?
"Ah shit, remind me to go to the gas station when we go back home." Niel said as he parked.
"You know I have short term memory myself-"
We get out of the car and after Niel grabs his jacket from the backseat, we walk inside.
I've been inside the police department a few times already, because every now and then I had lunch with Niel or waited for him to finish work.
So after we walked in, the lady at the front desk greeted us.
"Hello Sir. Oh hi James!" She waved at me.
"Hey Courtney" I politely greeted her back and follow Niel to his desk.
His desk stood next to another desk and infront of two others. Basically four desk arranged so they all sit together.
"Hey guys, so, this is my brother James as I told you. He'll help us organize this hellhole!" He said and annoyingly throws more folders on the already high tower of other folders.
"Oh hey buddy!" Lukas smiled at me.
"So, this is Lukas as I said. Behind that other tower of formulares is Lucy-" a redheaded girl sticks her head out so I can face her and waves at me.
"- oh and the guy here who's just in time with coffee-" Niel said and snatches a coffee out of his hands, "- that's Roy."
Roy places the coffee cups down in the middle so everyone can reach theirs and sits down on his desk.
"Hello." He said cold and starred at me while sipping on his coffee.
I could feel his blue eyes scanning me from top to bottom as if he was judging me.
"Ok, where do we start-"
But in the middle of Niels sentence, the alarm went of.
"Ah shit... OK you know what, just take a seat at my desk and I'll explain everything you need to do after we're back..."
This is exactly why they need a helping hand. They can't seem to organize their stuff without being called into action every five minutes.
"Alright." I simply answer.
The other three grab their stuff and walk out.
"See ya later Cub!" Niel ruffles through my hair and quickly joins the others.
I get my ebook out of my bag and sit down at Niels desk.
This could take a while...
