Alex had arrived a while ago. The three of them were eating pizza on the couch while catching up

"Luna's been doing so great. She's been asking when she can come over again." Alex chuckled as Luna loves Meredith and Derek

"We'd love to see her soon. But maybe when Mer is a little more comfortable?" Derek asks her, not wanting her to feel overwhelmed

Meredith nods, wanting to tell Alex about her sudden issue with signing

"A-Alex.. I-" She starts but is scared for his reaction

"Hey, what's wrong?" He sat up to face her better

"I- Signing.. I.. I forgot how to do it. And I know it's stupid, and I'm supposed to know it. But-" Meredith started rambling

"Hey, easy." Alex smiled at her. "I'm not angry, neither will Luna. You're her favorite auntie. We can help you. It's in there, we just need to get it out. Okay?" He pulled her in for a hug.

"I feel so stupid.." Meredith whimpered

"You aren't. You survived a horrible accident. You suffered brain damage. You will relearn." Alex assured her

"Alex is right, Mer. You already made some progress." Derek said as they has been practicing on it

"Even now you've been working on it?" Alex smiled proudly. He saw the Meredith he knew

"We try." Meredith nods in Alex' arms

"So proud of you, Mer. I just really hope they finally find something to help with your leg." He told her

"I do too." Meredith takes a deep breath, feeling her leg act up but she really didn't wanna ruin the night

She reached out for her meds and quickly swallowed them. Derek rubbed her back with a sad smile, he knew she was in more pain than before so he tried to comfort her

"Time for another movie." Alex said and turned on one of the movies they had chosen

As time passed by Meredith felt her leg twitching which caused the pain to get worse. Derek felt her uneasy in his arms. There was something about the way she tried to move but nothing helped

"Mer?" Derek frowned as he felt her starting to sob in his arms

"Sorry-" She sobbed

"Oh Mer-" Alex didn't really know what to do

"S-Sorry-" Meredith muttered sadly, feeling like she was ruining their evening completely

"Don't be. We just wanna be able to help you." Derek kissed her head. "Can I give you some morphine?" He asked, knowing she'll fall asleep

"Yes please." Meredith nods, the pain was getting too bad, as if her lower leg would fall off. Her toes felt heavy, her calf on fire and her ankle couldn't be moved or it felt as if she was gonna cry out once more. But the worst was the pain in her heel. That constantly felt like a needle was stuck in the heel

"Let me grab it." Derek got up quickly

"Can I do anything?" Alex asked, hugging her tight

"No. Sorry. I hoped today would be normal for once." Meredith felt really horrible

"We can continue the movie at any time, you didn't ruin a thing. I'm glad we spent time together again today."

"Yeah." Meredith nods, hugging him

...

A few weeks later Meredith and Derek were back at the hospital, hoping that Callie would come up with an idea for Meredith's leg

Meredith and Derek were currently waiting in Callie's office. Meredith's leg was once again splinted, another desperate try to find a solution

"Meredith, Derek?" Callie entered the office. "I got your new scans." She sighed and took a seat, scrolling on the Ipad

"And?" Meredith asked

"I wanna operate again and do a complete nerve transplant." Callie said, causing Meredith and Derek to frown

"A complete nerve transplant?" Derek frowned, as a neurosurgeon he knew how delicate that was

"Yes. A new nerve will take the pain away from the damaged nerve but there's a downside." Callie said

"As expected." Meredith muttered as she had lost all her hope

"You might need a permanent brace." Callie told them

"What kind of brace are we talking about here?" Meredith asked, crossing her arms as she needed to think about this all

"Probably from below the knee that keeps your ankle from collapsing and keeps your foot bent 90 degrees." Callie replied

"Not too bad.." Meredith muttered and felt Derek squeeze her thigh

"When would you do this surgery?" Derek asks Callie

"Probably in a week. So I have time to prepare. And you have time to get used to the idea." Callie said
