Meredith was getting more aware of her surroundings. She heard the voices of the people she loved, even if it took a while for her to realize. She felt slow and different, everything hurt so badly, she felt like she could only move her left fingers

"Mer? Can you hear me?" She heard Derek, the love of her life

She wanted to respond but her body was so slow and in so much pain

"Try to open these beautiful eyes for me, please." She heard Derek begging

She wanted to, she really wanted to but she just couldn't

She did her best, she kept trying again and again

Until her eyes finally opened, struggling with her eyes to adjust to the light and she groans in pain

"Hey Meredith. Oh god I missed you so much." Derek held her hand

"Der-" She whispers.

"Yes, I'm here. I love you so much, Meredith.." He whispers and suddenly notices Meredith just stared ahead, concern growing inside of him. "Mer?" He tried again. "Meredith?" He waves in front of her eyes but again no reaction so he quickly paged Amelia, even if he was one of the best neurosurgeons but he couldn't think straight

"Damnit Amelia!" He groans as it took a long time for his sister to arrive

"How is she?" Amelia walks inside

"I think- I think she's zoning out.." Derek's voice cracked, unable to look away from Meredith's tiny body

"Meredith?" Amelia tried again and did a check. "Take her to CT now, I need to know if there's another bleed." She orders and calls for some nurses to help her

Derek didn't let go on her uninjured hand, he needed to know how she was doing

Derek stayed with her during the CT, Amelia immediately was able to see there was no bleed

"No bleeding. We need to do an EEG." Amelia told her brother as they helped Meredith out of the machine

"Epilepsy? No way." He shook his head, not believing that could be true

"We need to check everything, Derek." Amelia said

"I need to see those scans, maybe you skipped something!" He groans, worried about Meredith

"Derek, I promise I checked everything. This seems like a seizure." Amelia sadly said

"We can do the EEG in her room." Derek said and they brought her bed back to her room, Meredith still staring ahead of her. "We're moving you back, Mer." Derek whispered, careful to make sure she wouldn't suffer more than needed, he knew if she'd be awake for the scans that she would be in a lot of pain because of her broken body

...

Hours later Meredith was waking up. After the seizure she was completely exhausted so she fell asleep right away

"Mer?" Derek stroke his fingers over her cheek, avoiding all the wires and her NG tube that made sure he got enough food in her body. He was aware he'd have one of the hardest conversations of his life so far

"Der.." She whispers, slowly opening her eyes, her sore body making her very uncomfortable

"Hey Mer. Do you remember what happened earlier?" He asks, his head close to hers

"Dunno.." She mutters, her confusion was probably a part of her brain damage that luckily wasn't as severe as they expected

"You had a seizure. We did an EEG.." He carefully starts to see if she'd understand or not

"My brain?" She frowned. "My injuries?" Meredith mutters as she hadn't had a real conversation yet and was still unaware of all her injuries

"Yes, the EEG showed you had a seizure, Mer. We'll have to do more tests over time but Amy thinks it's not a real seizure. It's something caused by your brain, you suffered brain damage." He explains her

"Brain damage?" She frowns, staring in his eyes

"We'll have to see how much better it will get over time, Mer.." Derek said, even if he knew brain damage isn't gonna restore itself

"Other injuries?" She asked

"Your left side was completely broken.." Derek starts. "Your arm and leg are casted, your arm is in a sling because your shoulder was crushed as well. You have a spinal brace, because your spine was hurt but Amy fixed it completely." Derek tells her, wanting to stop as the amount of injuries she suffered made him sick to his stomach. "But Mer-"

"W-What?" Meredith

"They- You have a stoma.. and we're not sure if you'll regain function over your bladder.." He said, he couldn't keep this from her

"N-No." She shook her head and started sobbing, Derek held her as good as she could, trying to keep her still while all she felt was pain.

Mental pain and physical pain

It hurts so bad

"You'll adjust. You're still here, that's all what matters." Derek whispers in her ear, making a poor attempt to calm her down, which didn't work as he had hoped

"N-No-" Meredith kept whimpering in his strong arms, every sob hurted a little more to her banged up body

Weak finale, i i see this as a compensation 😂
