We got home late. Even at night, Lagos was still occupied with cars. I once heard that Lagos was the New York of Nigeria—the city that never sleeps.
I had just come out of the shower when I heard a knock on my door. Immediately, I held my towel tight but eased my grip when I heard the voice.
"Babes, I'm coming in oh."
It was Ola. She didn't wait for my reply as she barged into the room.
"I didn't say you should come in," I said in my British accent.
She clapped her hands as she laughed. "Who is this one forming accent for?! Naija babe!" She sat on my bed. "Abeg, dress up. Let's gist before we go and meet Michael."
What?!
"Michael? What's he doing here?" I asked as I dressed up.
"He insisted on seeing you today since I didn't allow him to pick you up at the airport. Speaking of the airport sef, how was the trip? Hope no problem?"
I sat down beside her. "The trip was nice. And don't you think it's late for him to come?"
"Na him sabi."
I noticed then that she was still dressed in her office outfit—a royal blue long sleeve and black trousers.
"Why didn't you allow him to come anyway? Why send Rasaq?" I feigned anger.
"You and Rasaq don't seem to get along, so I thought maybe—"
"How many times have I told you that I don't like being alone with him?" I stood up abruptly, my voice rising slightly.
"I'm sorry... I just wanted you both to get along." Her voice sounded hurt.
Maybe I should have done acting.
I burst into laughter. "See as your face changed."
Her face looked confused.
"I'm joking oh! We bonded. Rasaq is a cool guy. I maybe judged him wrong."
"Haa! I'll kill this girl oh," she said, but I could hear the laughter in her voice. Her face looked relieved.
One thing about Ola—she hated pissing me off.
"So you mean all this was just an act?"
I curtsied. "Maybe I should have gone into acting."
"Not that funny, Osas." Her face became a bit serious.
"Ola, it was a joke," I laughed.
"Well, I'm keeping malice with you," she said, folding her hands.
"You can't," I said.
"Watch me try." She stood up. "Let's head down. Don't want to keep your lover boy waiting."
"He's not my lover boy. We are just friends."
"We are just friends," she mimicked. "And the way he talks about you says otherwise."
"Oh, c'mon, you guys are just exaggerating."
"Wait and see for yourself."
And we both headed downstairs.
Ola lived in one of the houses in Banana Island.
As we reached down, I noticed that Rasaq and Michael were both on the same couch, watching football with rapt attention. They didn't even notice our presence.
Ola cleared her throat to draw their attention. They both turned to her voice.
Seeing Michael clearly, I suddenly felt I needed to put on more clothes. I was dressed in red checkered boxers and a baggy black shirt.
His face lit up as he saw me. He stood up and headed toward me.
Quick preview of Michael: He was tall, and muscular, with a broad chest. His hair was a bit high, and his dark eyes could intrigue any girl. He looked like a hot model as he came closer, dressed in a black Italian suit. The black shirt underneath had a few buttons undone, exposing his deep chocolate chest.
"Hi..." he said, planting a kiss on my cheek.
His voice was deeper and more... sexy. I felt myself melt.
It had only been a few months, and he was looking like a man from another planet.
"Hi..." I smiled.
Someone's POV
I smiled at Ola's computer.
Confidential. The file name said. Not anymore.
In a few hours, this confidential file would be all over the internet.
How will you guys escape this? I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins.
This was going to be exciting to watch, I thought as I closed her laptop.
Tomorrow is just the beginning...
