If someone could make a cover for this I'd be extremely grateful. I'll give a dedication.

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

"Argh," I groaned. I rolled over to hit my alarm clock, which was being unrelenting in its beeps. It was 6:00 in the morning. First day at Gates High.

I rolled out of my bed and switched on my light. I pulled out a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. I brushed my hair and grabbed my bag. The bus came at 6:30. It was 6:20 before I got downstairs to grab something to eat.

Leah was sitting at the table eating a bowl of cereal. My mom was eating a waffle and reading a book. She looked up when I walked in. "Good morning Riley. Grab something to eat."

I grunted out a good morning & grabbed an apple. I ate it rather quickly threw the core in the garbage and glanced at the clock. 6:25. "Come on Leah," I said. "The bus'll be here in five minutes."

Gates' buses picked up the high schoolers and middle schoolers together. The high school and middle school were attached, but, we, the high schoolers, were dropped off first in the front. The only exception would be Leah.

Leah put her bowl in the sink. We walked outside just as the bus pulled up. We walked on and the bus driver told us were our seats would be. I was seat 17. Leah was seat 5.

I walked back to my seat to see it was unoccupied. For now at least. I rested my head against the window. No one came to my seat but I learned my neighbor two doors down, Melinda Wincock, was two seats behind me.

My mom told me before we arrived that I should go to the main office to get my schedule and locker information. Luckily, the main office was the first thing to be seen when walking into the school. I walked in with Leah next to me. The secretary looked up. "The Minister sisters?" she asked.

I nodded. She handed us our schedules. Our locker numbers and combinations were written at the bottom. I looked over my schedule:

Period 1: English

Period 2: Anatomy

Period 3: Probability and Statistics

Period 4/5: Government

Period 6: Lunch

Period 7/8: German III

Period 9: Band

It didn't seem so bad. I did get lost finding my locker though. By the time I found it, period 1 had already started. I grabbed a notebook and pencil from my backpack before shoving it on my locker. I looked at my schedule. Period 1 English was in D-16. I looked around. I was in C hallway. I walked straight and ended up in F hallway, then turned into A. After my fourth wrong turn, a monitor saw me. "Hey, you!" she called.

I turned and she caught up with me. "Why are you still in the halls?" she asked. "No pass I presume?"

"I'm sorry. I'm new here," I said. "I'm lost. I'm looking for D-16."

The monitor looked at me. "That's an acceptable reason," she said. "This school is confusing. My daughter got lost on her first day. Follow me, I'll get you to your class."

I followed her and thanked her. She led me to the D hallway, which wasn't far from where my senseless turning left me. She knocked on a door and a young looking teacher opened it. "Miss Pope, this young girl was lost. She's new. Please excuse her for being late," the monitor said to the teacher.

The teacher nodded and led me into the room. "Read silently," she instructed the class.

We walked over to her desk. She handed me a book, Hamlet. "I'm Miss Pope, I'll be your English teacher. I don't have a textbook for you, we don't really use them anyway. We're reading Hamlet," she explained. "Your seat will be over there."
