It comes off a lot more like a threat than an actual question.
Sujin grips the edge of her seat. "Sure." She murmurs through gritted teeth, "Whatever."
"Splendid." The Headmistress hums, sounding only half convinced. Whether or not she actually is, Sujin never has the luxury of finding out - as she's directed to the next part of their introductory meeting in a heartbeat.
"Now, let's talk about your subjects."
They arrange a schedule based on her existing classes and report cards from back in California. It's a fairly straightforward process, save for the Headmistress' sparing quips of "I must admit, your grades surprise me", to which Sujin replies with a humorless "Ha". AP classes in Math, English and Physics; with regular placement for Korean, History, Chemistry, PE, and Japanese is what they eventually decide on.
Though as Headmistress Jeong produces a printed copy of her schedule and makes work of highlighting key times and room locations, Sujin finds herself zoning out entirely and dwelling on the sizzling warmth in her chest that's somehow flared to the size of a forest fire in the last twenty minutes.
The Headmistress' commentary pisses her off, to put it kindly.
She finds herself agitatedly tapping her sneaker against the floor the more she thinks about the woman's words. "You will cooperate, won't you?" She mockingly repeats in her head - yeah, right.
She hardly even notices Headmistress Jeong move through yet another topic at a dizzying speed; something about the Suneung and end-of-year exams. Sujin merely gives a nod of acknowledgement, too caught up in the swirling frustration in her own head to actually absorb the words that are currently going in one ear and out the other. I'll worry about all of that when I have to, she thinks dismissively.
"Miss Han?" The Headmistress' voice brings her back to reality God-knows-how-many topics later, "Are you listening?" And she says it in such a patronizing manner, the girl can only bring herself to draw her lips into a tight line.
"Well, then." She nods, "That brings us to the end of our meeting. The girls' boarding house is located by the West Wing, where you will find your dorm - and home - for the next six months. Your bags have been dropped off at your room, your school uniform can be found in the closet, and a copy of your schedule has been sent to your inbox. And please remember to pick up a copy of our handbook as you leave." She gestures toward a small shelf of dictionary-thick books by the door, "Classes commence first thing Monday. I advise you use the rest of this weekend to familiarize yourself with our campus and codes of conduct. 'Getting lost' is not an excuse for tardiness - you are to be five minutes early to all of your classes, or you are late. Three meals a day served in the cafeteria at the times marked on your schedule."
Sujin slings her bag over one shoulder, rising from her seat before the Headmistress has even finished uttering her last sentence. This situation is getting all too overwhelming, and she feels her skin begin to prickle the longer she spends in the room.
"Cool." She shrugs, making a beeline for the door, "See you around."
"Sujin." The sharp tone in her voice makes the girl stop in her tracks, a hand tentatively clasped around the doorknob. She turns to see Headmistress Jeong wearing a sickly-sweet smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes, "Don't forget your handbook."
