Start from the beginning

"Oh, but when it's me you won't pull over?"

"No one gives a fuck about you!" Salem finally yells, and I can tell she's reached her breaking point. Her words are followed by a loud groan that overlaps the music playing on the aux.

"I don't give a damn about your opinion. You don't even work at Vincero! Don't you know that this is a luxury, designed brand that's only meant for the richest of the rich!" She screams. "Certainly not for poor people struggling to make ends meet like you."

I run my fingers through my hair and glance at Salem, who is scoffing and then laughing rather than pissed.

Gianna has fucked up.

"You don't know who the fuck you're talking to, Gianna." She says. And she couldn't be more true.

"Does my last name not ring a bell? Bailey? Perhaps, the name Bailey Corporation will help you." One of our biggest business partners and the co-partner of Graff. Gianna's expression is priceless.

"I.. You're joking."

"The CEO is my father, I'll be inheriting the whole company in a few years so, it's best you act nice now. But, I think we're already way past that." She chuckles.

"Whatever! Doesn't cover up the fact that your best friend is a whore and attention seek—" She's cut off by Rainer's raspy voice.

"Get out." He says, and I can tell he's serious. My body jolts forward with his sudden stop, the car screeches and another behind us honks loudly before driving past.

"But, Rainer, I only said the truth—"

"I'm not a man that likes to repeat himself, Ms. Genova." He continues, exhaling deeply and I watch his hand reach for the button that opens the door. Gianna still attempts to prove herself, only to get slapped by Salem.

"There's the door, bitch!" She says, pointing to the door behind the other girl.

Before I know it, Gianna's breaking into sobs as she reaches for the door handle. She takes her backpack with her, wiping her tears while shutting the door behind her.

Rainer drives off with not a single ounce of pity. This man even looks straight in his side view mirror as he drives away, watching her fall to her knees and break down in the middle of the road.

God knows how many hours we are from home, my guess is two but I'm too busy clutching my stomach as I stare on the road ahead to check Rainer's GPS. I whimper, trying to take deep breaths and focus on his movements on my thigh.

He moves his hand back and forth at a careful pace, just enough to comfort me and not too much that it scares me.

"It's okay, baby. I'm looking for a gas station."

────

We're quite close to home. And by home, I totally don't mean Rainer's penthouse. I can't muster up the strength to lift my head to see how close we are, but the streets that the GPS is saying seem familiar.

Salem's been awfully quiet, the last time I checked on her, she was dead asleep in the backseat with the whole row to herself. Though, before I got knocked out for about an hour, I felt the back of her hand touching my forehead.

I wake up to my head hurting more than ever, I take a glance at Rainer, who's driving one handed, with half-open eyes and I see Salem messing with the aux.

"Where are we?" I groan, my voice groggy and raspy. He turns his head in my direction and gives me that same smile. I see his dimples first, and then I hear his accent.

"Almost home. I'm going to drop Salem off and then take you to my penthouse." He says and finally, I look up to see that we're in Salem's neighborhood.

We pass by the familiar houses of her friends and some family and then at the very end is hers. All of the houses are modern with multiple stories, all of them with gates and big driveways that contain luxury cars like Rolls Royces. Salem doesn't joke with her money, well, most of the time.

Thankfully, It's only a short drive from this neighborhood to Rainer's penthouse. Meaning, I don't have to suffer in this tiny seat for any longer before I can finally stretch my legs and lay down.

He pulls up just in front of Salem's front door, his head turns to inspect her home and I get a view of his gorgeous, blond hair. It's messy and some strands fall on his glasses.

He looks gorgeous, but then I remind myself that we have a contract. One that never stated we couldn't fall in love, but I knew that if I did, I'd be too attached to let go after five months.

Not to forget, he's my boss too.

"I'll see you when I see you, babe! Get better." She leans forward to press a kiss on my cheek and I smile, watching as she gets out of the car. Salem quickly runs over to the trunk and gets her luggage and backpack before shutting it.

Rainer was kind enough to stay and wait with me to watch her get into the house safely, driving off the second her door shut.

The car ride is quiet but the atmosphere is calm and.. Comforting.

Of course, I'm with Rainer.

I sigh, watching him with my thighs pressed to my chest as he drives one handed, merging into the lane and cruising at 50 MPH. The speed makes my head bump against the headrest and it increases my headache, he notices and immediately slows down with a small smile.

"Thank you for uh, this whole trip. Especially with the thing with Gianna." I clear my throat, awkwardly grinning at him as I fiddle with my fingers.

"It's no problem. Anything for you." He says plainly, his hand reaches out for mine and he quickly intertwines them. My gaze shifts between our hands together and then him, but he doesn't spare a single glance for me.

Finally, a familiar building comes into view and my mouth hangs open at the sight of its height. I knew it had a ton of floors, though I didn't expect it to be this tall.

He quickly drives into the parking lot, speeding through the rows and taking a spot near the other elevator. He reverses the car into its spot in silence, his hand hooking onto the back of my headrest as he looks behind us to check.

I move to open the car door after he parks it, but his hand grips onto my wrist and stops me. I'm left dumbfounded as he exits the car quickly, running over to my side which I can't help but laugh at.

He opens my car door wide for me, and I step out with
a huge smile. I tilt my head up slightly to look at him and his gaze meets mine as he shuts the door behind me.

Rainer takes my hand yet again, guiding me towards the elevators and I scrunch my eyebrows.

"But our stuff, I—"

"I'll get them tomorrow. You can wear my clothes for tonight," He smiles.

"Or nothing at all."
