"So..." Kaye casually leaned on the counter top. " What do you think?"

"It looks...." The girl paused. She then turned to face her co-worker. "It's a mutated gene."

"Right?? But the label says otherwise." She pointed out.

The two just stared at each other, exchanging looks of confusion.

"Let me see." A haughty voice spoke up.

The two turned their heads towards the direction of the voice. Their eyes landing on the figure of a man striding towards them with confidence.

"Oh no, why is he here?" Kaye muttered, her tone dripping with acid.

Once the man was close enough, (F/n) took a peek at the man's ID.

Aaron Delgato.

' Oh it's that guy...' She thought to herself.

The man then took a peek in the microscope, a look of concentration plastered on his face. After a while, he took a step back while pursing his lips into a tight line.

" There's nothing wrong with it. It's just the usual gene. " He nonchalantly stated.

The two girls shot each other with looks of skepticism. Sir Aaron on the other hand took it as an insult.

" Is there something wrong with this sample? " He asked, shooting both of them a dirty look as he crossed his arms.

(F/n) cleared her throat, "Sir..." She started off slowly. "The structure of the gene is slightly different from the usual ;therefore, Both Kaye and I believe that this-"

He raised his hand up, cutting the girl off before she could finish her sentence.

"I've been in this job much longer than you are. I know what a mutated gene looks like. I've seen it THOUSANDS of times."

"But sir, if we leave this as it is it might disrupt the project." (F/n) protested.

"Well, it's your problem. You deal with it." He huffed.

A breath of disbelief escaped from the girl's mouth upon hearing his words. She could feel her anger level rising to the peak.

"Sir, to be frank, you are acting quite unprofessional right now." She replied, trying her hardest to not throw her hands towards his direction.

"I should be the one saying that to you NEWBIE." He shot back.

"And I suggest that the both of you should stop making a scene. "

(F/n) felt her whole body stiffen. She then slowly turned her head towards the source of the voice, her (e/c) eyes landing on the figure of her boss, sir Miguel O'Hara, standing beside them. He has his arms crossed as a look of annoyance plastered across his face.

'Oh shit.' The girl thought to herself.

" Sorry sir, I was just trying to educate this-" He gestured towards (F/n)-"New hire that the sample is NOT a mutated gene."

"Where is it? I'll confirm if it is mutated or not." Miguel let out an unamused sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose.

The three pointed towards the microscope, all donning the look of nervousness.

It only took a minute for Miguel to confirm that it is indeed, a mutated gene.

(F/n) and Kaye let out a sigh of relief while Aaron let out a gasp of disbelief.

With the issue solved, Miguel reminded the group to avoid fights in the workplace. If another dispute arises from them, he would make sure to give them extra labor. That's only if he's feeling nice.

He then left, allowing (F/n) to take another relieved sigh as the atmosphere lightened.

"Tch." Aaron clicked his tongue in annoyance. The man then gave (F/n) the stinky eye before leaving the room.

'The audacity of that man, ' the girl thought to herself, crossing her arms.

"Don't mind him (F/n), he's just salty that he's not department head." Kaye placed her arm around her before giving her a comforting squeeze. "He loves to assert his dominance over other co-workers. People like him need a reality check."

(F/n) nodded her head in agreement, she felt like did achieve something. She also did prove to her boss that she was competent. Well, probably competent enough to work under him.

" We should celebrate." She joked, the corner of her mouth pulling into a smirk. " We were able to hurt the ego of Mr.Aaron."

Kaye let out a giggle, burying her head on the girl's shoulder.

The following day, (F/n) came to the office earlier than her usual time. There is a new batch of samples that will be arriving that day so she has to make sure that she's there to inspect if there are any damages.

With the clipboard in one hand, the girl fumbled around her pockets to find a spare ball pen. A sigh of relief escaped from her mouth upon finding one of her pens tucked behind her ear.

' Next time, I should put it in my pockets ' She mentally reprimanded herself.

The girl rushes over to the nearest elevator then presses the 'up' button. While waiting for the doors to open, she took a glance at her wrist watch. 8:30. There is still plenty of time left but being early is better than being late.

The doors of the elevator opened. (F/n) looked up and found herself right in front of her boss, Miguel O'Hara. She felt a wave of shock pass all over her body, immediately freezing on the spot.

" Good morning Ms.(F/n). " He greeted, a hint of surprise plastered across his face. " I actually need to talk to you. "
