CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE✔️

Start from the beginning

"No demands. I'm offering you my help," Elena stated. "And in return, I want yours."

"Why should I even consider this?" Elijah asked.

"The same reason that you haven't killed me," Elena replied. "You need my help to kill Klaus and I need you two."

"I'm neutral," Arabella said as Elena's phone rang.

"Oh, the dreaded boyfriend," Arabella sang which caused Elena to glare at the strawberry-blonde.

Stefan's worried voice was heard.

"Where are you. Are you OK?" Stefan asked.

"Yes. I'm fine," Elena replied.

"Where's Elijah and Bella?" Stefan questioned.

"They're right here," Elena answered, looking at the two Original vampires.

"Where?" Stefan demanded. "I'm on my way."

"No, Stefan, we all need some time alone," Elena said.

"Listen to me. He can't be trusted. He'll cross you, he'll use you to get to Klaus; Bella too," Stefan said.

"Thanks Stefan, I know I can count on you," Arabella drawled sarcastically with a roll of her eyes.

"I trust Bella enough and Elijah is a noble man, Stefan. He lives by a code of honor. I can trust him," Elena said and glanced at the older Original. "He knows I'd be incredibly stupid to betray him again. By removing the dagger, I have proven myself." Arabella raised an eyebrow at Elijah and the two siblings exchanged glances.

"You can't do this alone," Stefan remarked.

"It's my decision, Stefan," Elena responded to her boyfriend. "Please respect it."

Arabella grabbed the phone from Elena and said into the speaker, "And make sure that Damon doesn't do anything stupid, God knows that I won't be there to clean it up. Goodbye." Arabella hung up the phone and handed it to Elijah.

"Elijah, guess who decided to pay us a visit at the decade dance," Arabella said, a smirk playing on her lips.

"Niklaus," breathed Elijah. Arabella nodded. "Klaus is here?"

Elena nodded shakily and said, "He's taken over Alaric's body."

Elijah scoffed and stated, "Of course he has. One of his favorite tricks."

"What is he going to do next?" Elena asked worriedly. "You and Bella are the only ones who know him."

"Yes, we do," muttered Elijah.

flashback

Klaus had met up with Arabella soon after she disappeared.

"Arabella," Klaus announced, causing the girl to turn around.

"Yes?" replied Arabella.

Klaus was suddenly in front of his sister and said, "I would like to thank you for leading the doppelgänger to my hands, sister."

Arabella narrowed her eyes, "I didn't lead anyone, Nik. This was purely coincidental."

Klaus only smiled at his sister and twisted a strand of her strawberry-blonde hair, "You cut your hair."

"It got annoying," Arabella replied and shrugged.

Klaus chuckled and said, "I"m glad you're back, little sister." He leaned in to kiss her forehead.

flashback over

Elena waved a hand over Arabella's distant face. "Bella?" Elena questioned. Arabella grabbed Elena's hand harshly and put it back on her lap before exiting the car. She faintly heard Elijah said, "Klaus and Arabella were close."

Arabella walked up to the Lockwood house -!: loudly knocked on the door.

"Arabella," Elijah said, his voice annoyed and motioned to a doorbell to her left.

Before Arabella could reply, Mrs. Lockwood opened the door.

"Bella, Elena, Elijah, what a surprise!" Mrs. Lockwood said, but more confused than shocked. "What are you doing here? What happened?" Carol glanced at Elijah's burnt suit.

"I've had a bit of an incident, Carol," Elijah remarked calmly. "I'm hoping you could help."

"Well, I'm on my way to a meeting—"

Arabella had compelled her before she could finish her sentence. "Just let us in, please."

A bright smile grew on Carol's face as she beckoned the three in. "Of course. Anything you need."

"Thank you," muttered Arabella exasperatedly. She scoped the house and rolled her eyes at the Lockwood's fancy interior.

"Well, first things first," Elijah started, "I'm going to need a change of clothing."

"Well, we can try one of my husband's suits?" Carol Lockwood suggested and gave Elijah a once over with a look on her face. "I haven't boxed them up yet."

"Wonderful." Carol went to fetch a suit.

Elena looked towards Arabella and said, "How did you know she wasn't on vervain?"

Arabella smirked and said, "Elijah is the one who got her off it. Right before you and your friends killed him."

"Twice," Elijah added and grabbed the suit Carol offered him. "If you'll excuse me, I'll be down in a moment."

Elena looked to Arabella. "You were close with Klaus?"

Arabella looked at the human and narrowed her eyes. "I was close to all my siblings."

"You never mentioned your family," Elena frowned.

Arabella sighed. "Everyone has a family, Elena. Some choose to flaunt them, others choose to keep them secret."

Elena looked towards the strawberry-blonde in slight shock before she she said, "Still, I didn't know."

"Well," Arabella started, "consider yourself known."
