"I will." Erwin stepped forward. "I'm already one of them, so it'll be easier for me to capture them," he added as Levi opened his mouth to protest.
"It's not worth it, Heichou," Eren cut in. Levi sighed. Erwin led Hange out, both armed with guns for extra protection. Moblit stared after the pair, anxiety in his eyes. Eren turned to him. "They'll be fine," he assured him calmly. "Commander Erwin's strong, and Hange-san's smart. They're not stupid, or weak."
Moblit sighed. "I know. It's just.. strange, to see them go out with so much confidence."
"I hardly expected Erwin to put himself up for the job so quick," Levi piped up. "Hange taking Eren up on his - quite stupid - offer doesn't really surprise me, though."
Eren crossed his arms. "That's to be expected of Hange, though."
Levi nodded. Porco blinked. "You just talk about your superiors like that? Behind their backs?" He asked. Eren shrugged. "We all talk about each other. We don't care." Levi answered. Eren nodded. "It's just commentary, so it doesn't mean much," he added.
Porco shuddered. "Before all this started, we'd be killed if we spoke like that about a superior."
"That's a you problem," Levi shrugged, standing up. "I'm going to look for anything edible," he announced to nobody in particular. Eren stood up, too. "I'll help you, I guess. I'm bored."
"M'kay." Levi began to wander around, and Eren went the opposite direction. Moblit flopped back on his mattress and closed his eyes, letting out a sigh. Porco glanced at him, then turned away and started talking quietly with Colt.
Meanwhile, Levi and Eren found themselves in the same room. It seemed to be a cafeteria of sorts. "Checks out, seeing as this was a school," Levi commented. Eren nodded, and the pair began shuffling through the cabinets.
After a few long, silent moments, Eren decided to speak up. "Heichou? Nobody else can hear us, right?"
"What? No, we're too far away. Why?" Levi didn't turn around, but Eren knew he was listening regardless. "Is there something you want to say?"
"Yeah, uh.. I know I've been an ass recently.." Eren began. "You have. Is that what this is about?" Levi didn't sound too mad. That was good.
"Kind of, yeah.. I can't really justify some of the stuff I've said, but I can give my best reason." Eren took a deep breath. "Okay. I'm listening." Levi crouched and began checking lower cupboards.
"I think this situation has had a lot to do with it. I know it was my reasoning for Annie to shoot Pieck and Reiner, but I feel horrible about killing my friends." Eren sighed. "I really think I should've died instead of them."
Levi froze. "Don't say that. I get your feelings about killing them, but think about it a different way," he suggested. Eren paused and turned to him. "What do you mean?"
"Well, they're not suffering anymore. They're not living in this hell-hole of a world anymore," Levi reasoned. Eren thought about that for a moment. "I guess. but I miss them. I hate living without them."
"I get it. I really do." Levi turned to Eren. "I lost my mother early on. She wasn't infected, just sick. Then it was my two closest friends. They got eaten in front of me." Levi let out a sigh.
Eren paused. "Oh.." he blinked. "Don't start pitying me. In any case, I know how you feel. I understand what's making you act like this. But you need to cool it down." Levi's voice got a bit softer at the end.
Eren hesitated. "I know. I'm trying to do that. But it doesn't help that those 'warriors' keep trying to call me a monster or keep getting mad at me for the one thing I regret the most."
"I know. If you want, I can give them 'that' look every time they make that kind of comment," Levi offered. Eren snorted. "Sure. That'll shut them up."
"Okay. Now continue searching, and tell nobody we spoke like this. Don't tell anyone I was being nice to you," Levi growled. Eren nodded. "Roger, Captain."
------
Back in the main room, after about two hours of Levi and Eren searching for anything the group could eat or drink, and finding a pretty decent amount of food and drinks -- and Eren redressing Moblit's wound, -- they were finally resting.
Porco looked over at them. Specifically Eren. "What? Finally ready to exist besside us without that attitude of yours?"
Levi, as promised, shot a glare at the warrior that seemed to say, 'shut your mouth before you become one of the freaks outside.' Porco went silent. Eren snorted and looked at Moblit, who was sitting up and looking anxious. "Hange and Erwin haven't come back yet?" Eren asked.
Moblit shook his head, concern filling his eyes. Levi narrowed his eyes. "It's been two hours.." he muttered. Eren cleared his throat. "They'll come back eventually. Neither of them are weak."
"Wel, I know that. Still, I'm worried.." Moblit lowered his head. Levi rested his chin on his hands. "Give them time. They'll come back eventually." Eren shrugged.
"Sure." Levi stood up, walking around the room. Eren followed his captain with his eyes. "We get it, Heichou. You're scared for them."
Levi froze. "I'm not scared. I'm bored." He replied, continuing to pace around.
Right as Eren was about to make a sarcastic retort, the door creaked open, then shut quickly. A very, very excited female voice shouted, "I did it! I figured out what it is!"
