Dib typically didn't travel off-planet. He'd been told all his life that one day, he would go to Irk to study science, but he had no idea what to expect.
Since the planets were allies, Irkens would frequently visit Vort, including Miyuki herself. Lard always advised him not to get too close, but Dib was just as fascinated with them as he was intimidated.
Even though most Irkens were short, they still upheld an image of power. The way they carried themselves as they marched across the planet's surface, looking so serious and calculated in everything they did. It seemed as though every Irken had a strong sense of self. They all knew exactly what each of their individual purposes were, and they adhered to that.
It was the kind of self-sustainability that Dib wished he could have. To have an awareness of who he is and what he's meant to do, instead of just being that weird alien kid.
That's why, as nervous as he was, he was looking forward to this next stage of his life. He would get to study alongside the most powerful beings in the universe, and maybe, living among them would make his purpose clear.
Lard Nar was quiet for most of the flight there. He hated having to give the kid up, especially since he was unsure what kind of danger Dib would be in, living alongside the most ruthless and violent beings in the universe. He would hopefully be safe as long as he stuck to lab work, but Lard didn't want to imagine what would happen if he ticked off the wrong invader or soldier.
"Now, Dib, I want you to know that Irk is very different from Vort. You cannot show weakness under any circumstance. But... if anything goes wrong, you call me, okay? I'll be over here in a flash to get you to safety."
Dib nodded, appreciating the reassurance. Though, he had a feeling it would probably be best not to contact Lard unless he REALLY needed help. The Vortian could be very protective, and would likely made a huge deal over something as small as Dib stubbing his toe. It would only create more trouble for him if Lard caused a scene, even if he meant well. The embarrassment would be too much to handle.
"Of course. But I think I'll be okay."
The ship landed on Irk, and the two headed off to their first stop: Miyuki's quarters.
"You were just a baby the last time you were here. You and Tallest Miyuki didn't get off to the best start, and she may still have a negative perception of you, but I'm sure she'll come around once she sees how smart you've become."
Dib let out a nervous chuckle.
"And... what if she still doesn't like me?"
"We flee the planet and never look back."
They were soon allowed entrance into Miyuki's quarters, and the Irken ruler stared them down with a stern look on her face.
"Why do you wish to speak to me, Vortian?"
"Your Tallness, I am Lard Nar from Vort Research Station 9, here to enroll alien scientist Dib into your fine academy's science program."
Miyuki sighed, glaring at the child.
"Ah yes, I remember you, you disgusting little thing. Though, it appears you've gotten taller at least. Speak, child. Prove you are worthy to be in my presence."
Dib cleared his throat, looking up at the Irken nervously. Her tall, spindly proportions were certainly intimidating. He could see why Irkens valued height so much.
"Greetings, your Tallness-"
"No, wrong. If you're going to be studying here, you will refer to me as 'my Tallest.' Try again."
