You and Joe did one final check around the hospital room, making sure you grabbed all the essential items you'd need at home. After double checking the room, you and Joe headed to the front desk of the postpartum unit to check out. You trailed behind Joe, sneaking a few pictures of him as the two of you walked out of the hospital and out to the car. Words can't even express how it made you feel seeing Joe carrying the car seat that held your daughter. You were hit with an overwhelming feeling of love and bliss as you watched him.
Seeing Joe take on his role as a new dad made you fall even more in love with him.
Joe put Josie's seat in the car, making sure it was secured into the bottom part that was already in the car. Once Josie was secured, Joe walked around to the other side of the vehicle, opening the door for you and helping you into the car.
"You good?" He asked, gently holding onto you hand as you sat down.
You nodded, giving him a sweet smile, "I'm good. Thank you for helping me."
He nodded, giving your hand a squeeze, "Of course, sweets. You let me know if you need anything, okay? I won't hesitate to pull the car over."
You chuckled and lovingly rubbed his bicep, "I know," you glanced at Josie who was sound asleep in her car seat, making those cute little newborn noises every once in a while. You turned back to Joe, smiling, "but I think we'll be ok."
He smiled and leaned his head into the car to plant a soft kiss to your forehead. You buckled your seatbelt and once Joe was settled into the car, he pulled out of parking lot of Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati and headed off to your home.
The drive from the hospital to the house wasn't terrible. However, Joe was extra cautious as he drove home. He stayed about five under the speed limit at all times, never passing any other cars, and constantly checked on you and Josie. He said something about how he had to be extra careful now because he has precious cargo in the back seat. You couldn't help but smile at him when he said that. He was already so protective of Josie.
You were sitting next to Josie's car seat, letting her hold onto your index with her little digits when Joe pulled into the driveway of your home. Joe turned the car off and put his keys in the pocket of his gray sweatpants. As soon as he got out of the car he walked over to the passenger side and helping you out of the backseat. You were still sore from giving birth, so sitting down and getting back up wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world. Joe held your hand while he settled his other hand on your lower back, guiding you up and out of the car. You thanked him for helping you as the two of you walked over to the other side to get your daughter. You got her car seat out of the car with ease, smiling down at the little girl who was starting to open her blue eyes at the feeling of being moved. You followed Joe into the front door of your home. You looked around at the entrance of the house, happy to finally be back in your own home.
The house was silent, a comforting silence. A silence that you and Joe both knew would soon go away. You gently sat the car seat down on the bench in the entry way, carefully unbuckling and pulling Josie out of the seat. Once she was in your hands, she scrunched her body like all newborns do during those first couple weeks of their lives. It was truly one of the cutest things you've ever seen. She let out a little grunt as you situated her in your arms, cradling her close to your chest. Your heart warmed with joy as you held onto your daughter. Joe placed his hands on your shoulders, peering over them to look at Josie. He beamed as he looked down at her perfect, little squished face. He gently stroked her cheek, making her squirm under his touch.
"Welcome home Josie." Joe smiled. You craned your neck up, looking into his bright blue eyes that were full of love as he looked at you and Josie.
"Should we show her around?" You asked. Joe gently squeezed your shoulders and nodded. The two of you started to slowly walk around your home, careful not to wake Josie. As you walked around all the different rooms of your house, Joe kept his body close to yours, making sure to keep a hand placed gently on your hip.
