Beth elbows me to show me who it was. But I was already looking at him. She smirks at me as I roll her eyes
"The Caro-Kann Defense, genuine bummer." Benny said as me and Beth watches
"What's wrong with Caro-Kann?" A man with glasses and his legs crossed said
"It's all pawns and no hope. Here, look, I'll show you, all right? This is Caro-Kann." Benny said grab a pawn and moving it
"I'd take the knight." Beth said catching me by surprise as she spoke suddenly
She walks up the stairs as I follow behide her
"You're, um... Aren't you that kid from Kentucky who wiped out Harry Beltik?" Benny asked
"If you take his knight, then you double his pawns." She said ignoring benny question
"Big deal. Like I said, it's all pawns...And no hope." He said taking two knights off the board
"Let me show you how you win with Black. Watch this. What does White do here?"
"Queen takes pawn."
"Queen takes pawn." Beth and the man with glasses said
I can tell that Beth a little took in back
"Rook to king eight. Check. Queen falls." Benny said
As I analyzed the board
"That's Mieses-Reshevsky." The man with glasses said confused
"Yeah." Benny said
"From the '30s."
"Margate, 1935." I said the man looks at me
"White played rook to queen one." He said
"Yeah, but what else has he got?" I said
Beth looks at me, confused on how I knew that
"All right, I gotta go. Hey, you know what Reshevsky, he was playing like that...Back when he was your age, little girl. Or even younger." He said to Beth as he pack up his chess board
He stands up
"Are you playing?" Beth asked
"Oh, what, here? Nah, nah. Just come through, see some old friends. And plus, playing too many opens... It can only hurt me, you know what I mean?" He said about to walk of before he puts a hand on Beth shoulder
"Good luck." He said walking off. Going downstairs
"Beth." I turn to her about to asked if I could
"Go." She said not even looking my way
I smile, "oh thank you, thank you, thank you." Bring her into a hug
"You're welcome now go." She said
"Okay, I won't be long." I said let her go out of a hug
I rush downstairs to only see Benny talking to the door man.
I go over to him. I clear my throat to get his attention. The door man walks away as Benny turns around
"Oh hey...umm"
"Y/n. Y/n Harmon" I said with a smile
"Harmon, Beth little sister." He said
"Only by a couple months" I said still smiling he stood there. I then realized that I didn't really tell him why I was there talking to him
