It was the end of the school day and Jahzara was walking to the exit with her friends.

"So you going to your girl house?" Jacoby asked

"Carmén is not my girlfriend. And no. She's meeting my mom. She's coming home with me." Jahzara said

"Oh, meeting the parents. Yall so together." Yamara said

"No we're not." Jahzara said while rolled her eyes

"Hey Carmén." Jahzara said enthusiastically as she hugged the girl

"Hi Jahzara." Carmén said laughing at the girl's energy while she hugged her back

"Seems like you dating to me." Jacoby said under his breath

"Yeah." Yamara said

"They're cute." Avana said with a smile

"Hi Avana, Jacoby and Yamara." Carmén said while politely smiling

"Hi." Yamara and Jacoby said back with a smile

"Hey. You're so nice." Avana said

"¿Qué hizo ella dice?" Carmén asked Jahzara, not understanding what the girl said

(What did she say?)

"Ella dijo que eres amable?" Jahzara said

(She said you're nice.)

"Sorry. Thank you. Ambas son bonitas." Carmén said

(You're both pretty.)

"She can't speak or understand English that well remember." Jahzara reminded her friends

"Oh yeah." Jacoby said

"She said you and Mara are pretty." Jahzara said

"What about me?" Jacoby said acting a little hurt

"I like your.." Carmén said while making hand motions around her head, hoping the boy understood her

"Oh, my hair. Thank you." Jacoby said

"Persona. Mi mamá me está llamando." Carmén said before she walked off to the side

(Excuse me. My mom is calling me.)

"Her mom's calling her." Jahzara translated as the girl walked away

"She's cute Zara." Avana said

"I know." Jahzara said with a smile

"Yall good together." Yamara said

"We're not together." Jahzara said

"Ok. We get it. She look ready for you. Bye." Jacoby said

"Bye guys." Jahzara with a wave

"¿Estás listo?" Jahzara asked as they walked out the school

(You ready?)

"Sí, ¿podemos pasar por mi casa muy rápido?" Carmén asked
