(Part 1.)

A

s a little girl, and even as a teen, I had always dreamed of wearing a beautiful gown and being presented to the royalty of a far off land. Typically my fantasy would include a handsome prince and happy ending all wrapped up in a bow. And sure the dress is gorgeous in the way it twists and flows around me like water, my escort is deviatingly handsome, and I am being presented to royalty. But the embroidery is a target, the man is a monster, and the king can't keep his hands to himself.

In my dreams there was no war, no hatred, and no evil. Ravka was far from my idyllic fairytale wish, that much I was sure of. As I walked through the throne room doors I became sure of one more thing...

If I wanted to survive I would have to become my own knight in shining armor.

A/N: Here's a quick preview for what's to come! I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while I've been in and out of the hospital on top of starting a brand new job. The rest of chapter 4 will be up later today as soon as I finish copying it from my notebook.
