Chapter 82 - "Well, That's Not Good."

Start from the beginning

Race stared at him. Maybe he was a bit out of it, but all he could think about was why Snowflake was wearing a cloak? With the hood pulled over his head too?

Are they trying to start a cult or something?

They should know Brooklyn is already pretty much a cult. I mean, their game nights, those are another level of cult-ish.

The kid nodded. "I know- I know, I'm sorry. But- but he's a Manhattan Newsie who was- was... kid... kidnap...napped by East Side," he explained quickly, struggling to pronounce a few words.

Snowflake instantly tensed. "Oh."

The kid nodded.

Snowflake looked at Race, before looking back at the kid. "Go inside, Ticks. Get some rest, it looks like you sold well today," he told him, patting his shoulder.

A ghost of a smile appeared on Ticks's lips as he nodded and quickly disappeared into the lodge.

Snowflake stepped down the stairs that lead up to the lodge door. "Manhattan kid?" he questioned, stopping a few feet away from Race.

Race nodded. "Racetrack Higgins, Manhattan's second in command," he introduced himself.

Snowflake nodded. "Snowflake Mariani," he introduced himself. "Leader of Harlem." He pulled his hood off.

Confused, Race blinked. Mariani? Why does that name sound so famil- he paused when he saw Snowflake's face, tilting his head. "Am I super out of it or are you not a man?"

Snowflake raised an eyebrow, a bit amused. "No, I'm not a man."

Race nodded a bit, impressed. "Nice. Good for you."

Snowflake tilted her head, staring at him in confusion. After a moment, she shook it off and looked at the door of the lodge, nodding to someone. "What happened with East Side?" she asked Race, turning back to face him.

Race shook his head a bit. He touched the cut on his arm lightly, frowning at the blood. "Uh... Revenge kinda kidnapped me because I'm dating the King of Brooklyn and I'm "important" because I'm half Brooklyn and Jack's second in command or something?" he explained, still a bit out of it. "I'm not quite sure. I just know that I'm not very happy that Sling betrayed me and is pretending that he got knocked out when I was taken." He rolled his eyes.

Snowflake nodded, taking in this information. She looked at the doorway when her second in command [re-]appeared, holding a glass of water. "You look like you don't feel good. Would water help?" she asked, gently helping Race sit down. "It sounds like you've been through a lot."

Race stuck his tongue out in disgust. "I hate water," he mumbles.

Snowflake rolled her eyes. "Oh, you're one of the stubborn ones, huh?" She took the cup of water from her second in command, starting to help Race take a sip of it.

Race's eyebrows furrowed in offense. "What?" His voice was started to come out a bit more slurred. Maybe he had lost more blood than he thought. "How do you... know that? You don't know me." He tried to dodge the cup whenever she tried to get him to take a sip.

Snowflake shook her head. "I've taken in plenty of boys like you, Racetrack. You stubborn ones are all the same." She sighed, finally getting him to take a sip.

Begrudgingly, Race swallowed the water.

After a few more minutes and some more sips of water, Race started feeling even more out of it.

"I think my... injuries are... worse than- than I thought," Race mumbled, leaning his head back against the wall.

Snowflake frowned. She looked him over. "Dear God, how much blood have you lost?"

Race tried to lift his head up to answer, but started seeing black.

Snowflake watched him, growing concerned as he started getting more delirious and drowsy. "Racetrack?"

Race's head leaned back against the wall and he slumped over a bit, slipping from consciousness.

"Well, that's not good."
