Y/N POV
Rose, Zeus and I finally arrived home after stopping at an auto parts store and getting everything I need to fix Scarlett's car. I back the trailer into the drive way, back behind the house to my garage out back that has a car lift, opening the roll door and backing the trailer as close as I could get. I help Rose out of the truck and grab her stuff before walking back around the house to the front door. I open the front door yelling, "Kids I'm home and I brought a friend!"
"Mama! Mama!" We hear the pattering of feet running to the door as Paxton and Aurora yell for me. Rose hides behind my legs as Zeus runs to go greet them. I crouch down to them, being careful of Rose behind me, and catch them both in a big hug, kissing them both on the top of their heads. I pull away from them and before they have a chance to ramble and tell me how their morning went, I gently pull Rose in front of me as she holds onto me tightly.
"Paxton and Aurora, this is Rose, Rose, this is Paxton and Aurora." Pointing to them individually as I introduce them. "PJ, Rora, Rose is going to be hanging out with us today while I fix her mom's car and will be having dinner with us. Can you guys show her around and make sure she has a fun time while I'm working please?"
They both nod their heads excitedly before Paxton steps forward, holding his hand out for Rose to take. "Hi Rose, you can call me PJ. It's nice to meet you. Do you wanna come see our play room? We are going to watch Frozen after lunch if you want to join us."
Rose tentatively takes his hand, nodding her head, looking back at me to make sure it was okay. I nod my head with a reassuring smile before she turns back to PJ, following him as he gently pulls her along as Rora starts rambling to her about everything they have in their play room. I watch them walk away with a smile, watching Zeus walk after them before I stand up walking to the kitchen to find June.
"So did you kidnap a child or find her on the street or something?" June asks me as soon as I enter the kitchen as she is working on lunch, having overhead my conversation with the kids. June is my 74 year old neighbor who has quickly become like a grandmother to me. Her late husband, Richard, died due to a heart attack last year at the age of 77. Her kids and grandkids still visit her as often as they can, but she enjoys coming over to our house and hanging out with my kids, feeling less alone.
I laugh at what she said while shaking my head at her accusation. "No, I didn't steal a child, I helped Rose and her mom when their car broke down and Rose wasn't ready to part ways and I guess her mom wasn't able to get a sitter this morning and she decided she trusts me so she asked me if I could watch her and I said yes."
Quirking an eyebrow at me skeptically. "Really? A woman you just met asked you to watch her daughter?" Continuing to work on lunch.
"I know, it's pretty weird to think about. But apparently Rose has warmed up to me faster then anyone else so she trusts me because of it, and I'm not about to question her judgement, because even in the short time I've known her it's clear she is a dedicated mother and puts her daughter's safety first." June nods her head in understanding.
"So I'm guessing you need me to stick around a while longer while you work on her mom's car?"
"Yeah, if you don't mind. I'm hoping to have her car fixed before she gets off of work so I told her I'd pick her up and make them dinner, which means I need to get cracking." Turning towards the stairs as I talk. "Thank you, June!" I shout back as I quickly head upstairs to my room to change my clothes, I hear a slight chuckle behind me as she shakes her head. I quickly change into grubby jeans, crappy sports bra, and a homemade cut-off t-shirt.
