(A/N: This starts with the teaser I published in the last book, but it is continued further, so don't skip this chapter!)
Getting information from 049 hadn't been that successful. You had been spending more time around your friends. You had been trying to figure out what the pestilence was on your own now. You tried to ask Collin questions to see if anything was different between him and someone who allegedly didn't have it. But you still couldn't figure it out.
It had been a while since you last talked to 049. Some people were starting to give up, if you couldn't get information out of him, who could?
Maybe there was no information to get, maybe 049 really just couldn't give an answer. It has always seemed like he never really could control his "curing", well that was until you came around.
Your father still made you wear that stupid jade ring. SCP-714. You never thought you would ever actually need it but your dad wanted to make sure you were safe. 'You could never really know what 049 was really planning.' At least your dad still seemed to care about you.
049 hated you wearing the ring but there was nothing he could do.
Today was another interview scheduled. You didn't want to do it. Sure maybe because you just hated doing it but also because ever since you woke up you had been feeling sick. Really sick. But you had a job to do so you powered through it.
It was too much trouble to request one of the drug-like SCPs so you just took so over-the-counter medicine.
You grabbed the ring, knowing you would never hear the end of it from your dad if you weren't wearing it. You slipped it onto your finger, you felt a weird kind of pulse from it for a second.
You grabbed your coat and left toward the containment of 049. You passed a few of your colleagues in the halls.
Whispers...
They would always whisper things about you.
What could you expect though? You were in love with an SCP.
Why did this have to happen?
You watched once again as the doors to the containment opened. You walked inside and sat down across from 049.
You noticed something strange today he wasn't looking directly at you and he seemed very... fidgety...
"Hey... How have you been?" You eventually asked.
"Managing. Still working on-"
You coughed suddenly.
"Oh my, are you alright dear?"
"Yeah... I'm... I'm fine. Probably just a cold..."
Your father became a lot more alert than normal. You were sick, and in there with 049.
Sure it wasn't the pestilence but... it still wasn't safe.
"Get them out of there."
"Sir, I don't think-"
"Get my child out of that room right now. They are sick and shouldn't be working."
"Yes sir."
*This interview is over. Please exit the room Dr. Y/N.*
"Wow still calling me by my title but don't treat me like it... Just use Y/N, I've said it a million times."
You stood up and sighed, "Guess they don't want me in while I'm sick. Sorry."
"Well, I hope you get better. You shouldn't overwork yourself. Oh- and make sure not to contract the pestilence." 049 said with a chuckle.
Did he laugh? You hoped he was joking.
An uncomfortable laugh escaped your mouth, "Yeah... Sure.".
"Perhaps it would be best if you stay away from the acquaintance of yours. What was their name, Collin?"
*Please leave the containment cell.*
"Alright, Alright. I'm leaving."
~Months later...~
Things were... quiet... a little too quiet. It had been months since any kind of containment breach. You were on edge. You knew something was going to happen...
Luckily, that weird sickness you had disappeared a few weeks ago. It had become an inside joke with your friends that maybe you got the pestilence.
You were going back to see 049 after at least of month of not seeing each other. From what you had heard from other researchers, he had been asking a lot about you, he seemed quite worried. Even suspected that you had really died from an illness since he saw you cough last time.
As you entered the containment cell you could practically hear the joy in his voice upon him seeing you, which was strange, considering his voice always sounded so calm and monotone despite circumstances.
"Y/N! It is a joy to see you my dear. You had me so worried... have you been avoiding me?"
You sigh, "No... nothing like that... My dad didn't want me in here when I was sick and I have other duties to tend too".
"Am I not more important?"
"Oh no you poor baby," You laugh as you sit down at a table across from him, "So, what have you been up to anyway?".
"My work as always, a great way to distract myself from worrying about you."
You sigh, "I already said you don't have to worry about me...".
"My dear, do you not remember where you work? Anything here could kill you! I am always quite worried."
"Well... you could end up killing me too..." you mumble.
"Y/N! I would never! You know I have promised to never do such a thing..."
"And what if somehow I get this pestilence your always going on about? What if I get sick? What if you have to cure me?! What then? Will you kill me?"
The other researches listening in to the conversation suddenly got a lot more focused, this was a topic they have been begging you to bring up. They would finally get their answer...
049 is quiet for a moment, "I....Y/N you must understand that..."
To be continued....
